We are recruiting on behalf of our client, an established and forward-thinking accountancy practice with a varied client portfolio. They are looking to appoint an experienced Accountant to join their team, managing a range of accounts, tax and compliance work while delivering a high-quality service and building strong, long-term client relationships.
The Role The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a varied portfolio of clients, preparing accounts and tax returns, handling compliance work and supporting junior members of the team. This is an excellent opportunity for an accountant looking to take ownership of their work while continuing to develop their technical and client management skills.
Key responsibilities include: * Preparing and reviewing statutory accounts for limited companies, sole traders and partnerships. * Preparing corporation tax computations and returns. * Preparing personal tax returns and associated compliance work. * Managing workloads effectively and ensuring assignments are completed within agreed budgets and deadlines. * Identifying and resolving accounting, tax and record-keeping issues. * Liaising directly with clients to obtain information, answer queries and explain technical matters. * Building strong and trusted client relationships. * Maintaining accurate and well-documented working papers. * Clearing review points promptly and ensuring work is completed to a high standard. * Coaching, supporting and reviewing the work of junior colleagues. * Keeping up to date with changes in accounting standards, tax legislation and professional guidance. * Working collaboratively with colleagues across accounts, tax and other service lines. * Using accounting technology and digital tools effectively, including cloud bookkeeping and accounts production software. * Identifying opportunities to improve processes, workflows and efficiency across the department.
Working hours: Monday to Friday 9am-5pm

The successful candidate will ideally have: * A recognised accountancy qualification such as ICAS, ACCA or an equivalent qualification. Part-qualified or qualified-by-experience candidates with strong relevant practice experience will also be considered. * Previous experience gained within a general accountancy practice. * Strong technical knowledge across accounts preparation, corporation tax, personal tax and VAT compliance. * The ability to manage assignments from start to finish with limited supervision. * Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy and quality. * Strong organisational and time-management skills. * Good commercial awareness and an understanding of budgets, efficiency and recoverability. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Confidence dealing directly with clients and building strong professional relationships. * A proactive approach, with the ability to identify issues and suggest practical solutions. * Experience supporting, coaching or reviewing junior members of staff. * Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and Word. * Experience using cloud accounting packages such as Xero. * Knowledge of IRIS or similar accounts production and tax software would be advantageous.
