Job Description - Accountant - Music

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Accountant with specialized experience in royalty accounting with experience in the music industry. This is a 12 month contract to support whilst they go through a system transformation, you will be responsible for ensuring the accurate processing, reporting, and analysis of royalty transactions, as well as maintaining financial compliance with artist and rights-holder contracts.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual royalty statements for artists, writers, and producers.
Interpret and apply contractual terms to ensure accurate financial and royalty reporting.
Manage the processing of incoming and outgoing royalty payments.
Maintain and reconcile royalty-related accounts in the general ledger.
Coordinate with legal and A&R teams to onboard new contracts and update royalty systems accordingly.
Support audits (internal and external) related to royalties and contractual compliance.
Assist in budgeting and forecasting royalty expenses and revenues.
Analyze trends and variances in royalty income and expenses to support financial planning.
Improve and document processes related to contract and royalty accounting.
Collaborate with other departments to ensure data accuracy across rights management systems.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (ACCA, ACA, CIMA preferred but not required).
3+ years of experience in financial accounting, with at least 1–2 years in the music or entertainment industry focused on royalties and contracts.
Strong understanding of music industry contracts (e.g., recording, publishing, licensing).
Experience with royalty accounting software (e.g., Vistex, Counterpoint, Curve, or similar) is a strong plus.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP systems ( SAP) preferred.
Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced, creative environment.
