Accounts Manager

A successful and expanding business is looking for an experienced Accounts Manager to join its 14-person team. This is a broad and influential position, reporting directly to the Director and taking responsibility for the day-to-day running of the accounts function, while also contributing to the company’s ongoing growth and financial planning.

You’ll work closely with all levels of the organisation, ensuring the financial requirements of the business are managed efficiently, accurately and promptly. The role would suit someone with a strong understanding of the financial operations of a small business, who enjoys taking ownership and being involved across the wider organisation.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced and qualified accounts professional, with the relevant accounting qualifications alongside strong practical experience in a similar role. You’ll be self-motivated, proactive and commercially minded, with a genuine ‘can-do’ attitude and the confidence to work independently.

Key Responsibilities:

* Oversee the monthly payroll process, ensuring PAYE reporting and HMRC payments are completed accurately and on time.

* Manage pension administration, including new starters and checking contribution payments.

* Prepare and submit P11D returns and manage PSA payments.

* Complete quarterly VAT returns and ensure all HMRC compliance requirements are met.

* Manage supplier payments, cash flow and FX requirements.

* Take ownership of the management accounts process, including month-end accounts, accruals and prepayments.

* Lead the budgeting and forecasting process, providing financial insight to support business planning and commercial decision-making.

* Produce accurate and timely financial reporting to support commercial decision-making.

* Present management accounts and financial information to Directors and attend SMT meetings.

* Monitor customer credit limits and debt, while managing invoice discounting facilities.

* Identify financial and operational risks within the business and provide practical, commercially focused solutions.

* Manage, train and develop the finance team, including supporting and mentoring junior members.

* Liaise effectively with budget holders and non-finance stakeholders across the business.

* Work closely with Operations and provide support on ad hoc financial and commercial projects.

Areas of Oversight

Weekly customer billing.

Haulage accruals.

Plant accruals.

Invoice processing.

The successful candidate will have:

* At least 4 years’ experience within a finance environment, ideally at a senior level.

* Previous team management experience, with the ability to manage, mentor and develop junior finance team members.

* Proven ownership of management accounts, budgeting and forecasting processes.

* Experience producing accurate and timely financial reporting to support commercial decision-making.

* The ability to identify financial and operational risks and provide practical, commercially focused solutions.

* Strong Excel skills, with the ability to analyse data and produce accurate financial reports.

* A graduate-calibre background with a recognised professional accounting qualification such as ACCA, ACA or CIMA, either fully qualified or close to completion.

* A career history demonstrating clear ownership, progression and increasing responsibility within relevant finance roles.

* Strong experience in financial analysis, reporting and commercial decision-making.

* The confidence to liaise effectively with budget holders and non-finance stakeholders across the business.

* Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills.

* A proactive, commercially minded approach with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
