Activity Coordinator/Support Worker - Day Centre for Autistic People

Location: Thornton Heath, CR7 7ER

Hours: 9am – 3:30pm – Monday to Friday

Bensham Resource Centre provides educational, therapeutic, and recreational activities for adults with Autism and Learning Disabilities. Our aim is to promote independence, choice, social interaction, and fulfilment.

The candidate must be of a forward-thinking nature, energetic, with a creative mind and ready to look for opportunities for the development of activities and promotion of our Centre.

Role Requirements

* Have experience working in a Day Centre or other Special Education Needs and Disability (SEND) provision for adults with autism and learning disabilities.

* Have relevant qualification and training in Autism, Oliver MGowan Tier 1 and 2, Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), Behaviour that Challenges and Care Certificate – 16 Standards.

* To be able to plan, run and supervise various activities and events.

* Preferably have a valid driving licence and willing to drive for the organisation.

* Be competent in IT.

Role Responsibilities

* Plan, organise, run and supervise various skills, training, events, and activities with the Service Users either within the Centre or community. These will include trips out to places of interest, library, leisure centres, cafes, parks, museums, farms, etc.

* You must have a hands-on approach and support Service Users with their personal, physical, social, and psychological wellbeing. You will assist Service Users in the control of incontinence and personal care.

* To work harmoniously with other Staff, professionals, and families.

* To write User’s Person-Centred Plan, Positive Behaviour Support Plan, Reviews, Assessments and to perform other administrative duties.

* Communicate effectively with the service users using verbal and AAC - Augmentative and Alternative Communication methods.

* Communicate effectively with parents, carers, social workers, guardians, and other professionals.
