ALN Teaching Assistant – Specialist Resource Base – Chepstow

Location: Chepstow, Monmouthshire
Pay: £93 - £100 per day (dependant on role)
Hours: 8:30am–3:30pm, Monday to Friday
Start date: September 2026
Contract: Full-time, long-term and term-time only

Teaching Personnel is recruiting a patient, reliable and compassionate Secondary ALN Teaching Assistant to join the Specialist Resource Base of a welcoming secondary school in the Chepstow area.

This is a full-time, long-term opportunity for someone who wants to build meaningful relationships with pupils and become a consistent part of the school’s support team.

About the Specialist Resource Base

The school’s Specialist Resource Base supports pupils aged 11–16 with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Additional Learning Needs and social communication needs.

Pupils benefit from smaller class sizes, specialist staff and a structured learning environment, while also being supported to access lessons and activities within the wider secondary school.

You will work closely with teaching and specialist support staff to help pupils develop academically, socially and emotionally.

What will you be doing?

As an ALN Teaching Assistant, you will:

Provide one-to-one and small-group support within the Specialist Resource Base

Help pupils understand instructions and engage with learning

Encourage confidence, independence and positive routines

Support communication, emotional regulation and social interaction

Help pupils transition between the resource base and mainstream lessons

Follow individual learning, behaviour and support plans

Work closely with teachers and specialist staff

Help maintain a calm, safe and inclusive learning environment

We would love to hear from candidates with recent experience supporting children or young people with:

Autism or social communication needs

Additional Learning Needs or Special Educational Needs

Challenging behaviour or emotional regulation

Learning difficulties

Mental health or wellbeing needs

Relevant experience may have been gained through schools, care, support work, youth work, residential settings, sports coaching or volunteering.

You should be:

Patient, calm and resilient

Confident building relationships with teenagers

Reliable and committed to a long-term role

Able to set clear and consistent boundaries

Passionate about helping young people achieve their potential

Be aged 18 or over

Have the right to work in the UK

Complete an Enhanced DBS check
