ROLE SUMMARY

About NHS Golden Jubilee

NHS Golden Jubilee is a unique national NHS Board based in Clydebank. Through collaboration, innovation and excellence, it delivers a national portfolio of services including:

•    Golden Jubilee University National Hospital
•    NHS Scotland Academy
•    National Centre for Sustainable Delivery
•    Golden Jubilee Research Institute
•    Golden Jubilee Conference Hotel

As Scotland's flagship centre for planned and specialist care, NHS Golden Jubilee plays a vital role in improving patient outcomes, reducing waiting times and supporting innovation across NHS Scotland.

As a Non-Executive Member, you will work with the Chair, fellow Board Members and Executive Team to ensure effective governance, strategic leadership and accountability.

You will contribute to:

•    Setting strategic direction
•    Supporting effective decision-making
•    Providing constructive challenge and assurance
•    Promoting high standards of governance
•    Championing organisational values
•    Participating in Board and Governance Committee meetings

Training and support will be provided to help you make a strong contribution to the Board.

  • ensuring that the public body delivers its functions in accordance with Scottish Ministers’ policies and priorities 
  • providing strategic leadership 
  • ensuring financial stewardship 
  • holding the Chief Executive and senior management team to account

Qualifications
ROLE CRITERIA

You must be able to demonstrate:

•    A commitment to NHS Scotland's shared values and NHS Golden Jubilee's values and behaviours, and the ability to embed these in your approach to leadership and decision-making.
•    The ability to offer constructive challenge that supports effective decision-making, governance and accountability.
•    Strong analytical and decision-making skills, including the ability to consider complex information, weigh different perspectives and reach well-informed conclusions.
•    The ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including Board Members, Executive leaders, staff, patients and partners.
•    The ability to listen to diverse perspectives, influence respectfully and contribute positively to collective decision-making.
•    An understanding of the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion in improving outcomes for patients, staff and communities.
•    A commitment to public service, ethical behaviour and acting in the public interest.

In addition, we would welcome applications from candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:

•    Clinical services, healthcare quality, patient safety or service delivery.
•    Finance, audit, risk management, governance or assurance.
•    Strategic transformation and change within a complex organisation.

Experience may have been gained through employment, voluntary work, community leadership or lived experience.

Remuneration: £16,224 per annum (non-pensionable), increasing to £17,784 from 1 April 2027. Reasonable travel, subsistence and eligible dependant-carer expenses will be reimbursed.
 

Time commitment: Approximately one day per week (52 days per year), averaging around eight hours per week. 


Term of appointment: Up to two years.

Location:  The Board is based at NHS Golden Jubilee, Clydebank.

Board meetings are normally held in person, while Governance Committee meetings are generally held virtually. Members should be prepared to attend a blend of physical and virtual meetings.

Interviews:  Interviews will be held on 14 and 18 September 2026 and will be conducted in person at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital in Clydebank.

Candidates must be available to attend on either date and it is unlikely that we will be able to offer an alternative interview date.
