You will develop skills in a variety of roles, which include working on lockstitch, overlock and twin needled machines. You will also be working on plain and more intricate items which are used to build the finished item of furniture. And you will develop the skills needed to be able to maintain these machines, to ensure they are set up right, and operate as required.
Receive boxes of bundles from the line feeder and check that all zips are present and correct and request further boxes throughout the day as required.
Check ticket set is with the bundle and remove; retain the personal ticket and sort the necessary remainder into the sequence required for insertion during sewing as required by other departments.
Remove bundle of pieces from the box and sort out if necessary into a logical sequence.
Identify your work by either writing or sewing in identity marks on all sewn pieces.
Check pieces for flaws and request re-cuts from the line feeder as necessary; advises line feeder of need for more cotton, zips, etc.
Sew pieces according to specification, check pile and pattern, direction if necessary, sewing in darts, pleating and gathers, inserting piping cord, elastic and zips, attaching fibretex, adjusting and easing the fit of components as appropriate, webbing, lining and other sundry items as required by the specification.
Sew in work tickets and labels as required by the specification and return pieces to the box.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
During your Standard Level 2 Furniture Manufacturer apprenticeship programme you will receive training both off and on the job. You will be trained at the employer within the workplace. You will learn the underpinning knowledge that runs alongside your practical elements of the training. WEBS Training aim to build on the skills you already have so you reach your full potential both personally and professionally.
Training will be provided in all areas of sewing machining to ensure you are capable of creating practical and bespoke furniture using both traditional and modern techniques and materials to produce aesthetically pleasing and fit for purpose products.
If you have already achieved GCSE maths and English at Grade 4/C or above or have equivalent qualification you will be exempt from undertaking Functional Skills, however English and maths support will be provided for all apprentices throughout the length of their programme.
