Job Description

As the Area Transport Manager you will manage the transport function for all depots (Heywood, Oldham and Port Salford). Ensuring legal compliance while driving service, cost & KPI improvements through continuous review.

Responsibility for service delivery & performance; team management & development; legal compliance; operational health & safety; producing & managing the Transport Budget, including variance reconciliation and to further develop integrated transport solutions to deliver a premium and cost effective service.

Working hours: Monday to Friday days, 40 hours a week.

Key Duties of an Area Transport Manager:

  • Managing and maintaining agreed service levels. Pro-actively seek business improvement in terms of performance, increased efficiency and service levels on an ongoing basis.
  • 24/7 operational accountability via a management & first line management team.
  • Proactively seek optimisation without affecting service.
  • Integration and control of new cross dock clients where applicable.
  • Responsible for the interface between every area of the operation to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Direct, motivate and develop team members to equip them with the skills to lead and manage their teams.
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory legislation in regard to Health & Safety and statutory Transport rules and regulations.
  • Propose, agree and implement service standard agreements for products with customers in conjunction with other areas of the business.
  • Client Interface with all major customers including implementation meetings, customer reviews and other ad hoc meetings as required.
  • Ensure the Companies Operator Licences are maintained efficiently and accurately at all times. Contingency planning to avoid Company exposure to the Operator Licences.
  • Retailer Interface in regard to Key supplier management for quality and cost.
  • Support the Company in regard to reducing its carbon footprint, for example recycling initiatives.
  • Ensure a secure and safe environment for staff and products.

Qualifications

  • National CPC is required.
  • Previous Transport operations experience within an FMCG environment.
  • Lead, motivate and manage a large team.
  • Detailed knowledge of transport planning and operations.
  • National Network experience and network optimisation.
  • Planning and organising skills, high level of numeracy.
  • An effective communicator at all levels, good verbal and written skills.
  • Commercially focused and bottom-line oriented.
  • Consumer oriented and customer-service driven.
  • Able to work efficiently across the business and functional boundaries.
