A highly reputable Independent School in Cambridge is seeking a passionate, knowledgeable, and innovative Art Teacher to join their thriving Visual Arts department for an immediate start. This permanent, full-time role offers an exceptional opportunity to teach in an environment where creativity, academic curiosity, and artistic independence are genuinely valued and actively encouraged.
The successful candidate will teach Art from KS3 through KS5, supporting students in developing technical craftsmanship, creative risk-taking, and a strong understanding of visual language. You will contribute to GCSE and A-Level coursework preparation, guide students with portfolio curation, and inspire them to embrace a wide range of media including drawing, textiles, sculpture, digital illustration, printmaking, and mixed media exploration.
The department offers dedicated studio spaces, excellent lighting, high-quality materials, a kiln room, photography equipment, and digital editing software. Teachers are encouraged to integrate contemporary artists, cultural context, and cross-curricular creativity into their lessons.
There are also regular opportunities to lead enrichment clubs, curate gallery exhibitions, and support students entering regional and national art competitions. The school prides itself on the strength of its exhibitions and the way in which Art is respected across the community.
This Independent School is known for its warm culture, exceptional academic outcomes, and a holistic commitment to student development. Class sizes are deliberately small, enabling meaningful, personalised feedback and intellectually rich classroom dialogue. Behaviour is exemplary—students are courteous, focused, and highly receptive to challenge.
Teachers here enjoy a high degree of professional trust. The leadership team respects staff expertise, encourages autonomy in planning, and actively supports subject-specific CPD. Colleagues describe the working environment as collaborative, intellectually stimulating, and deeply rewarding.
A strong academic background in Fine Arts or a related field
QTS or relevant Independent School experience
Ability to teach Art confidently up to A-Level
A passion for creative education and artistic identity
Strong organisational and communication skills
A positive, student-centred teaching philosophy
Competitive Independent School salary scale, reflective of experience and specialist skill.
