Job Description - Asset Manager (Ports and Strategic Infrastructure)

Purpose of Role: Ensure the effective management of our strategic infrastructure portfolio (namely ports and energy infrastructures such as cables, pipelines, power station intakes and terminals) through the delivery of Crown Estate strategy and values to enhance revenue and profitability. This would be in alignment with our purpose, whilst diversifying and embedding a customer centric focus to ensure the long-term durability of the business. That includes leading on market and business development, commercial management and customer and stakeholder interactions
Main accountabilities:
Responsible for the management of a geographically defined area of diverse and unique tidal land around England, Wales and Northern Ireland to meet the requirements within our strategic objectives, policy framework and business plan. • Responsible for the delivery of an annually approved budget from rents, royalties etc. as part of the portfolio’s contribution towards Business Unit and Enterprise targets. • Accountable for the provision of strategic management of three regional firms of Chartered Surveyor (outsourced management model) agents and liaising with three regional firms of Solicitors to ensure high performance and fulfilment of contractual duties. • To consult closely with the communications department and other relevant internal stakeholders regarding commercial or sensitive issues. • To inform and consult with other departments of the Marine SBU on related matters as they affect the business. • To consult and engage with all customers and stakeholders as appropriate by written, verbal communication or at appropriate meetings, conferences or events. • Demonstrable experience of working in an asset management role, taking responsibility for a commercial, environmental and societal land assets. • Demonstrable commitment to health and safety practices and regulatory compliance.
Most important skills based requirements:
Suitable business related qualifications and membership (e.g. RICS).
Good knowledge of landlord and tenant law.
Detailed understanding of legal agreements relating to land and property i.e. leases, wayleaves, easements and licences.
Relevant management level operational, commercial and strategic management experience with responsibility for budgets, performance targets and P&L
Detailed understanding of the key business drivers of the Strategic Infrastructure portfolio
Broad and detailed knowledge of marine resource management, customer management and valuation
Relevant commercial negotiation experience with associated legal/contractual exposure
A proven ability for taking a commercially-driven approach with evidence of enhancing the value of land assets
Strong financial management expertise, particularly in setting, monitoring and control of budgets
Numerate and competent in the use of information and communications technology inc. Microsoft office, GIS and other property related systems
A strong working knowledge of the legal aspects regarding commercial and environmental rights, obligations and relevant legal processes
Ability to build trust with internal and external relationships, communicate and work with industry, government and other stakeholders at all levels
Ability to lead the managing agents to deliver against SBU’s strategy, portfolio objectives and plans, and to create an environment that develops high performance within the portfolio and across the business
Previous people management/leadership experience
