Assistant Accountant

We are seeking a dedicated Assistant Accountant to join our finance team. This role involves a wide range of accounting tasks, including managing both purchase and sales ledgers, bank account operations, and assisting with payroll and financial reporting. The ideal candidate will be working towards an accountancy qualification and have a strong foundation in financial processes.

Day-to-day of the role:

Purchase Ledger:

  • Review and process all purchase invoices and maintain electronic filing.
  • Reconcile statements and handle payment requests and supplier queries.
  • Analyse aged creditors weekly for short-term cash flow and supplier payments.
  • Manage weekly payment runs and review bank payments, including direct debits and standing orders.

Sales Ledger:

  • Upload invoices daily to the Confidential Invoice Discounting website and communicate with customers.
  • Maintain electronic filing of sales invoices and credit notes.
  • Manage credit control, including chasing overdue payments via email and phone.

Bank Account Management:

  • Handle daily bank postings and reconciliations.
  • Reconcile the CID bank account to the Confidential Invoice Discounting website.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assist with stock reconciliations, maintain the fixed asset register, and calculate depreciation.
  • Support payroll processing and ensure accuracy in payroll reports.
  • Manage expenses and prepare quarterly VAT returns.
  • Assist with month-end processes, balance sheet reconciliations, and the preparation of management accounts and budgets.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience with Microsoft NAV or Dynamics 365 Business Central is advantageous.
  • Working towards an Accountancy Qualification; support for ongoing training costs provided.
  • Good level of education including GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths & English or Economics. AAT Level 3 is desirable.
  • University degree is desirable but not essential.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.

  • Working hours from 8am to 4:30pm Monday to Thursday & 8am to 1:45pm Friday.
