Assistant Accountant

Alexander Daniels are working with a well-established and growing wholesale/distribution business that is looking to appoint an Assistant Accountant to support their busy finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for a part-qualified or experienced finance professional who is keen to work within a fast-paced, product-led environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Financial Controller across a range of accounting functions including management accounts, reconciliations, reporting, and transactional processing. This is a hands-on role offering great exposure to both financial and operational elements of the business.

• Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts

• Bank reconciliations and daily cash management

• Processing journals, accruals, and prepayments

• Balance sheet reconciliations and general ledger maintenance

• Supporting VAT returns and other HMRC submissions

• Processing supplier invoices and managing AP/AR

• Supporting internal audits and financial analysis

• Helping improve systems, reporting, and financial processes

• Ad hoc finance support as required by the Financial Controller

• AAT qualified or part-qualified ACCA / CIMA

• 2+ years' experience in a similar role

• Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, formulas)

• High attention to detail and excellent numerical skills

• Comfortable working in a fast-paced SME environment

• Good communication skills and a proactive attitude

Desirable:

• Experience in wholesale, distribution, or FMCG sectors

• Experience using accounting systems like Sage, Xero, or NetSuite
