Job Description - Assistant Accountant

Our client is recruiting for an Assistant Accountant to join their finance team within a dynamic and growing business. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual with strong analytical skills and attention to detail, who is looking to build their career in finance and accounting.

Key Responsibilities

Assisting with the preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reports.
Supporting budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
Reconciling balance sheet accounts, including accruals and prepayments.
Processing purchase and sales ledger transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
Assisting with stock and cost accounting, working closely with operations to understand variances.
Preparing and posting journal entries.
Supporting year-end and audit requirements.
Assisting in the implementation and improvement of financial systems and processes.
Providing ad-hoc support to the Finance Manager and wider team.

Skills & Experience

Previous experience in a finance or accounting role, ideally within manufacturing or a similar industry.
Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and core accounting principles.
Excellent numerical and analytical skills with high attention to detail.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting software (e.g., Sage, SAP, Oracle, or similar).
Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments.
Actively studying or keen to study AAT/ACCA/CIMA.
