Assistant Accountant

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and organised Assistant Accountant to join a busy and friendly finance team within an established SME business on the outskirts of Newark, with a turnover of approximately £6 million.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced finance professional who wants to develop their career and gain broader exposure across the finance function. You’ll work closely with the Financial Controller and Finance Director, supporting the day-to-day finance operation and working alongside two Ledger Clerks.

What you’ll be doing

Supporting the Financial Controller with the preparation of monthly management accounts

*

Preparing accruals, prepayments and journals

*

Completing bank reconciliations

*

Assisting with cash-flow forecasting and budgeting

*

Maintaining the Fixed Asset Register

*

Supporting credit control and managing outstanding payments

*

Raising sales invoices and purchase orders

*

Processing supplier invoices, payments and receipts

*

Setting up new customers and suppliers on Sage

*

Processing expenses and credit card transactions

*

Assisting with payroll and VAT returns

*

Maintaining accurate finance records and the order book

*

Producing financial reports and information for management

*

Supporting with general finance queries

*

Working closely with the two Ledger Clerks and wider finance team

*

Providing general support to the Financial Controller and Finance Director

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who is experienced, organised, accurate and confident with numbers, with the ability to take ownership of their work and contribute positively to the wider finance function.

Ideally, you’ll have:

At least 5 years’ experience within a finance environment

*

AAT Level 4 or equivalent

*

Strong experience using Sage

*

Good Excel skills

*

Experience across a broad range of accounting duties

*

Excellent attention to detail

*

A proactive and hands-on approach

*

The ability to work independently while also supporting a wider team
