Job Description - Assistant Accounts Manager

Salary – up to £45,000

Location – Milton Keynes (with flexible working options)

Employment Type – Full time

Role Summary

A leading and growing firm of chartered accountants and tax advisers is seeking an Assistant Accounts Manager to join their Milton Keynes office. The firm has a strong regional presence with a large client base across the UK and internationally. They are dynamic and innovative, committed to supporting their clients’ prosperity while also investing in their people, local communities, and environmental initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the management and senior leadership of the firm.
  • Review and manage a portfolio of jobs within the accounts team.
  • Manage financial aspects of client service, including budgeting, negotiation, billing, and recovery.
  • Oversee the preparation of statutory accounts (FRS 102 and FRS 105).
  • Finalise statutory accounts under the overall control of senior leaders.
  • Manage preparation of corporation tax returns for FRS 105 clients.
  • Manage preparation of personal tax returns.
  • Manage preparation of sole trader accounts and associated personal tax returns.
  • Work with cloud accounting software (e.g. Xero and QuickBooks Online) and advise clients on their use.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • ACA/ACCA qualified (2 to 5 years PQE) or qualified by experience.
  • Significant accounting experience gained within a professional services environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting standards and corporate tax matters.
  • Experience in personal tax (desirable).
  • Proficiency with cloud accounting packages (particularly Xero and QuickBooks Online) and App integrations.
  • Understanding of skill requirements across staff levels to ensure work is delegated appropriately.
  • Excellent communication and people management skills, with proven experience managing staff and clients.
  • Ability to prioritise and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills and experience supporting junior team members.

  • Full-time role, Monday to Friday, with flexible working options (office/home mix)
  • Remuneration dependent on experience
  • Annual Christmas bonus equivalent to one week’s salary
  • Salary sacrifice pension scheme (Employer: 5%; Employee: 3%) subject to eligibility
  • Private medical insurance (following 3 months’ service, taxable benefit).
  • Death in service cover (4x salary)
  • Group income protection scheme (non-contributory, following 3 months’ service)
  • 25 days’ annual leave (pro rata), with 3 days normally taken at Christmas/New Year
