We’re looking for an individual to join Asset Backed Investments under the high performing umbrella of Rates & Investments team. The successful individual will be a keen self-learner and self-starter who can operate independently. They will manage a portfolio of Covered Bonds and Asset Backed Securities to reduce the cost of our Liquid Asset Buffer and opportunistically partake in discretionary investments which generates additional yield for our members.
This is an exciting and rare opportunity to be part of a consistently successful and cohesive team who are empowered to make meaningful investment decisions for the society daily. The team assesses opportunities in global covered bonds and European securitisation across £/€ and $.
At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.
For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part time you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at our London office. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here.
What you’ll be doing
No two days are the same on the desk and can vary from a fast-paced environment trading flow bonds to deep analysis of securitisation structures and legal documents. Whilst assessing opportunities in financial markets is core, you will also drill down into investor reports and prospectus, tinkering with spreadsheets and optimising our way of working. You will be required to digest and condense news and data from various sources to assess impact on the portfolio.
The role is an opportunity to represent Nationwide, facing and professionally challenging senior members of other organisations when carrying out our due diligence. It also provides a steppingstone working with financial markets as you will carry out market execution in rates, credit and securitised markets. You will have demonstrated that you are able to optimise workflows and problem solve complex issues.
Asset Backed Investments is an integrated function within Rates & Investments, so we’re positioned to leverage broader rates market expertise as well as contribute our thoughts to the funding desks in treasury.
Ultimately, we purposely don’t want there to be a specified list of everything you might or might not be involved with – we want you to treat this role as a platform to grow your abilities and to add value to Nationwide, whilst offering as much support as you need to be successful in that.
