Job Description - Assistant Development Manager

JOB SUMMARY

Canary Wharf Group (CWG) has a development pipeline of over 7m sqft, comprising predominantly commercial, residential, and retail.

With over £1bn procured and constructed we are preparing to embark on our next stage of development and are seeking an ambitious and dynamic Development Manager to join the team.

Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 (dependent on experience)
Closing Date: Sunday 15 February 2026

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the management of projects through defined development milestones
  • Assist the directing of teams through the feasibility, site assembly, planning, pre-letting, funding, development, delivery, marketing, sales, leasing and hand over processes
  • Undertaking feasibility appraisals and various financial analysis to identify viable development proposals
  • Assist the leadership project teams on the production of all relevant documentation to secure all necessary approval(s)/authorities to proceed with the development
  • Delivering site assembly through the brokering of land deals, negotiation of agreements and resolution of compulsory purchase, rights of light, daylight and sunlight situations
  • Production of project development brief with explicit objectives, roles & responsibilities, programme and deliverables
  • Appointment and management of professional team to design viable development proposals that meet the constraints of the site and applicable planning policies
  • Support planning applications through the planning process (submission, consultation, S106 Agreement) to secure consent within budget and programme
  • Assist with legal due diligence, funding negotiations and the documentation of all relevant agreements
  • Assist with the negotiation of main construction contact to ensure compliance to development brief and applicable policies/standards
  • Assist with the appointment and management of contractors and suppliers
  • Assist with oversight of the delivery of the project to ensure completion to agreed quality standards within approved budget and programme
  • Produce concise and value add project reporting on a timely basis
  • Lead risk and opportunity management exercises to maximise project returns
  • Lead timely budgeting and resource planning to ensure efficient and effective development management of the project
  • Manage and control design changes using the approved change control process.
  • Production of the sales, leasing and marketing strategies for the project to define targets and deliverables within agreed programme, budget and financial metrics
  • Management of the marketing, sales and leasing teams to ensure agreed strategy is implemented and targets are achieved, including approval of all marketing materials.
  • Maintenance of the feasibility appraisals to track the projects progress against approved financial authorities and project metrics
  • Identify and evaluate asset management and value creation initiatives
  • Lead preparation for and enable the successful handover of the project to the asset & estate management teams at completion

The job holder is able to demonstrate the following skills, experience and knowledge:

  • Highly motivated, dedicated and driven to achieve exceptionally high standards and results
  • Sound commercial and operational strength and a presence which allows him or her to swiftly build credibility at a senior level
  • Numerate and logical with capacity to analyse complex issues and distil key factors with accuracy and speed
  • A lateral thinker, continuously looking for new and better methods to enhance performance
  • Outstanding written and spoken communication skills
  • Strong professional and work standards & ethics
  • Ability to liaise with numerous stakeholders and resolve situations effectively, tactfully and with minimal conflict while maintaining positive relationships.

  • Proven track record of successfully delivering development schemes
  • Proven understanding of the property development process, in particular planning and delivery
  • Proven understanding of end to end construction and the project management process
  • Proven track record in the completion and hand over of high value projects
  • Proven knowledge of asset and estate management issues
  • Demonstrable experience of negotiating and influencing at a senior level
  • IT literate
  • A flair for/appreciation of design
  • Financially astute
  • Experience of successful management of business operations
  • Relevant degree qualification
  • Ideally a professional qualification/membership of an appropriate organisation
  • A sense of fun
