Job Description - Assistant Editor

ABOUT IBS INTELLIGENCE & THE CEDAR GROUP

Established in 1991 and headquartered in the UK, IBS Intelligence (IBSi) is the world's only pure-play Financial Technology research, advisory and media firm, with global coverage and a 360° portfolio of intelligence offerings. For over 30 years, IBSi's expert teams have delivered independent, in-depth, actionable insight across Financial Technology and the global banking, consulting, technology and institutional-investor world. IBSi covers 5,000+ FinTech vendors in depth — the largest such coverage by any research firm in the space — and its iconic annual Sales League Table has been the industry's barometer of global FinTech vendor performance for 20+ years, spanning 120+ leading participants across 150+ countries and 20+ system types.

IBSi is part of the wider Cedar-IBSi platform. The platform runs Cedar-IBSi FinTech Labs, a BankTech / B2B FinTech accelerator home to 70+ FinTechs since 2017; Cedar Hill Capital, an early-stage venture capital fund backing founders building AI-first enterprise technology for financial services; and Cedar, a 40-year-old global management consulting firm with deep expertise in business strategy and technology and digital transformation for financial-services clients worldwide.

ROLE PURPOSE

The Assistant Editor supports the end-to-end delivery of the IBSi Journal and related editorial content — planning, writing, interviewing, editing, production coordination and publication — while supporting commercial outcomes across subscriptions, advertising, sponsorships and IBSi events.

ROLE OVERVIEW

Although this is an individual-contributor role, the Assistant Editor works closely with the Mumbai editorial team to maintain quality, consistency and delivery timelines. The role combines editorial craft with commercial awareness and a visible presence across the FinTech and banking ecosystem.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Editorial planning & publication

–   Support the monthly IBSi Journal from planning through print and digital release; maintain editorial calendars, coordinate contributors, production and proofing; and edit and fact-check content for accuracy, style, grammar and legal risk.

Content, interviews & digital

– Write features, analyses, opinion pieces and news content; conduct senior-executive interviews with banks and FinTech firms; and adapt editorial content for websites, newsletters, social media and multimedia channels.

Commercial & revenue

– Support revenue generation through journal subscriptions, advertising sales, sponsorships, sponsored content and IBSi event sales — identifying prospects, contributing to pitches and maintaining a disciplined commercial pipeline.

Industry relationships & representation

–   Build and maintain relationships with banks, FinTech firms, industry bodies and PR teams, and use audience-engagement insights to strengthen editorial and commercial planning.

Industry events & market presence

–   Attend and represent IBSi at leading global and regional FinTech conferences, awards and industry forums across the UK and Europe, serving as a credible face of IBSi and strengthening its market presence.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Education: Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, English, Finance, Business or a related discipline.

Experience: 5–7 years of B2B editorial or content experience, preferably in financial services, FinTech or technology publishing, with a strong portfolio and experience working to fixed publication deadlines.

SKILLS, DOMAIN & COMPETENCIES

Functional & technical skills: Writing, editing and proofing; interviewing; editorial planning and production coordination; digital publishing across web, newsletter, social and multimedia; commercial and pipeline awareness.

Banking & FinTech domain knowledge: Banking and financial-technology market landscape; the FinTech vendor ecosystem; how research and editorial content create value for banks, FinTechs and investors.

Behavioral competencies: Editorial judgment and rigor; ownership and independence; stakeholder management; deadline discipline; credible external presence.

KEY STAKEHOLDERS

Internal: Head of IBSi, the Mumbai editorial team, research and data teams, marketing, and the commercial / events teams.

External: Banks and financial institutions, FinTech and technology firms, industry bodies, PR teams, event sponsors and conference organizers across the UK and Europe.

CAREER PROGRESSION & SUCCESS

Progression: Subject to sustained performance and demonstrated capability, the role offers a path toward senior editorial and section-leadership positions within IBSi.

Success (first 12–18 months): The IBSi Journal ships on time and to standard; a steady flow of high-quality features and interviews are published; readership and engagement grow; and the role contributes measurably to the commercial pipeline and IBSi's event presence.
