Assistant Fund Controller - Global Alternative Investment Manager - Up to £60,000 - £70,000 + Bonus

Our client is a global alternative investment manager that invests across the capital structure, asset classes, industries and geographies. The firm is continuing on its growth journey and is now looking to recruit a highly motivated and technically strong Assistant Fund Controller to support the financial management, reporting, and control environment of a portfolio of open-ended private credit and private equity funds. The successful candidate will have a solid grounding in fund accounting and financial reporting, with practical knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS and a good understanding of alternative investment fund structures, NAV processes, and day-to-day fund operations.

Profile / Search Criteria:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
2. ACA, ACCA, CA, CPA, or an equivalent professional accounting qualification is preferred; part-qualified candidates will also be considered.
3. Relevant experience in fund accounting, fund financial reporting, audit, or fund administration, ideally gained within an alternative investment manager, Big Four firm, or third-party fund administrator.
4. Working knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS; exposure to fair-value accounting and financial-instrument reporting would be beneficial.
5. Understanding of open-ended fund structures and core fund accounting processes, including NAV production, subscriptions and redemptions, investor allocations, and financial-statement preparation.
6. Interest in, or exposure to, private credit strategies, such as direct lending, asset-based finance, distressed or special-situations credit, and/or private equity investments.
7. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; experience with fund accounting platforms, data-analysis tools, and process automation, including Excel-based and AI-enabled solutions, is advantageous.
8. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities / Tasks / Coverage:

1. Assist the Fund Controller with the financial reporting and ongoing oversight of a portfolio of open-ended private funds, in line with US GAAP, IFRS, fund documentation, and company policies.
2. Support the preparation and review of NAVs, investor allocations, equalisation calculations, and investor capital activity, including subscriptions, redemptions, capital calls, and distributions.
3. Assist in preparing quarterly and annual financial statements, investor reports, management information, and relevant regulatory reporting.
4. Liaise with fund administrators and support coordination with auditors, tax advisers, legal counsel, and other service providers to ensure reporting is accurate and delivered on time.
5. Complete fund accounting reconciliations and control checks, investigate and resolve exceptions, and help strengthen fund accounting processes and procedures.
6. Support the review of fund activity against limited partnership agreements, offering documents, side letters, and other relevant governing documentation.
7. Provide fund accounting support, portfolio analysis, transaction-related assistance, and ad hoc reporting to investment, legal, tax, operations, and senior-management stakeholders.
8. Assist with the valuation of illiquid investments by preparing supporting analysis and documentation for review by the Fund Controller, investment teams, fund administrators, and the Valuation Committee.
9. Help deliver fund accounting system enhancements, reporting improvements, automation initiatives, and other process-development projects.
