Assistant Head Teacher - Independent Prep School

We are recruiting on behalf of an exceptional Independent Prep School in South London, seeking a dedicated, forward-thinking Assistant Head Teacher (English Specialism) to join the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). This is a pivotal role, contributing significantly to the academic vision and day-to-day operation of the school.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Head and SLT to lead the school’s academic strategy and day-to-day management
• Inspire and support staff, modelling exceptional classroom practice and promoting professional growth
• Set ambitious targets and contribute to a culture of high achievement across the school
• Lead on assessment, curriculum design, and senior school transition (11+ & 13+)
• Support student learning with a reduced teaching timetable, ideally in English
• Build strong relationships with parents and ensure effective, sensitive communication
• Oversee preparation for senior school entrance assessments, including practice exams and support plans

• A qualified teacher with a degree and preferably a postgraduate or teaching qualification
• Experienced school leader with a proven track record in a prep or junior school setting
• Excellent practitioner with the ability to lead by example in the classroom
• Knowledge of independent school regulations and Keeping Children Safe in Education
• Strong interpersonal skills, able to communicate confidently with pupils, staff, and parents
• Demonstrable experience in managing change, supporting staff, and handling complex situations professionally
• Organised, forward-thinking, empathetic and aspirational - with a genuine passion for education
