Assistant Manager

Assistant Manager | Garden Centre | Norwich Area

We are looking for a motivated and commercially focused Assistant Manager to join a successful garden retail business in the Norwich area.

Working closely with the Store Manager, you will help oversee the day-to-day operation of the business, support the development of the team and ensure customers receive a high standard of service. The role covers a varied range of departments, including plants, specialist pet and aquatic products, and outdoor gardening supplies.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with retail management experience and a genuine interest in horticulture to take on a varied, hands-on role within a busy retail environment.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee daily operations across designated departments, maintaining high standards of presentation and product availability.

Work with the Store Manager to achieve sales objectives and improve overall business performance.

Support, motivate and develop colleagues to build an effective and customer-focused team.

Provide guidance on plants, gardening products and related areas of the business.

Monitor stock levels, coordinate orders and maintain effective merchandising and stock control processes.

Assist with recruitment, staff training, scheduling and day-to-day workforce planning.

Take responsibility for the wider operation of the site when required.

Handle customer queries and complaints professionally while ensuring company procedures and health and safety standards are followed.

About You

Experience in a supervisory or management role within retail, garden retail or a related sector.

A good understanding of horticulture and an interest in gardening.

The ability to lead by example, support colleagues and encourage strong team performance.

Commercial awareness, including an understanding of sales, stock management and operational efficiency.

Strong communication, organisation and customer service skills.

A practical, adaptable approach and the confidence to work in a fast-paced retail setting.
