Assistant Planner

The opportunity

A specialist planning consultancy delivering programmes on major civils and infrastructure schemes is looking for an Assistant Planner to join the business and learn the discipline from the ground up.

You'll work directly alongside the owner, a career civils planner who spent years delivering programmes for some of the UK's leading contractors before setting up on his own. The business has a loyal, growing client base, and this hire is about building the team to take on more of it.

What you'll learn

* Construction planning from first principles, taught one-to-one

* Primavera P6 and ASTA Powerproject, with no prior experience required

* Building, updating and reporting on programmes for live civils and infrastructure projects

* Working with site teams, commercial teams and clients to gather progress and manage change

* Over time, taking ownership of your own programmes and clients

What we're looking for

* Time spent on a construction site in some capacity, e.g. a placement year, site engineer, assistant site manager, or a site-based support role

* An understanding of how sites actually run and the people on them

* The confidence to hold your own with foremen, site managers, construction managers and QSs, and get the information you need

* Curiosity, attention to detail and a genuine appetite to learn

* A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to client sites nationally

Working pattern

* Based in and around Lincoln

* Time split between a Lincoln office, client sites across the country and, once you're up and running, some home working

* The first few months are spent working closely alongside the owner to build your skills quickly

The package

* £30,000 – £40,000 depending on experience

* Company car or car allowance

* Pension contribution

* 35p per mile

* 25 days holiday + Bank Holidays

Why this role

Planning is one of the scarcest skills in construction, and there are very few genuine routes into it. This is one of them: proper training, direct access to an experienced planner, and a clear path to running your own work
