About the Company

Our client is an established and growing construction business delivering major residential and specialist construction projects across the UK.

The business has a strong pipeline of projects across sectors including Build to Rent, multi-family, affordable housing and major residential developments. Due to continued growth within the commercial function, they are looking to appoint an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their developing claims team.

The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor looking to step up to QS level or QS looking to convert to Claims QS construction claims.

Working closely with an experienced Senior Claims Quantity Surveyor, you will receive hands-on support and mentoring while developing your knowledge of contractual claims, EOTs, disruption and loss & expense.

The role would suit an Assistant QS who already has a strong commercial foundation and is looking to develop a specialist career within claims.

Key Responsibilities

Supporting the Senior Claims QS with the preparation of contractual claims

Assisting with Extension of Time (EOT) submissions

Supporting disruption and loss & expense claims

Reviewing project records, programmes, valuations and commercial information

Assisting with analysing project costs and identifying potential entitlement

Gathering supporting information and evidence for claims

Assisting with the preparation of detailed claim submissions

Reviewing contracts and contractual obligations

Working closely with project and commercial teams to obtain relevant information

Supporting negotiations with clients, contractors and other stakeholders

Maintaining accurate commercial and claims documentation

Developing knowledge of contractual mechanisms and claims procedures

Supporting the wider commercial team with project-related commercial matters

Working towards taking greater responsibility for claims as experience develops

The Ideal Candidate

The successful Assistant Quantity Surveyor will have:

Previous experience as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Main contracting experience would be highly advantageous

Experience working on construction or residential projects

Good understanding of commercial construction processes

Knowledge of valuations, variations, subcontract accounts and cost control

Strong numerical and analytical skills

Excellent attention to detail

Good written and verbal communication skills

A genuine interest in developing a career within construction claims

Ability to analyse project information and identify relevant evidence

Good Microsoft Excel and general IT skills

Relevant Quantity Surveying or construction qualification would be advantageous

Ambition to progress towards a Claims QS position
