Assistant SENDCo
  • Location: Littlehampton
  • Work Pattern: 37 hours per week, term-time only (TTO) including INSET days
  • Salary: Grade H (5 spine points)
  • Job Type: Full-time, term-time

Join this dedicated Inclusion team as an Assistant SENDCo. This role is pivotal in promoting the progress and achievement of students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across the academy.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
  • Assist the SENDCo in ensuring a consistent approach to supporting students with SEND.
  • Promote a culture where students, staff, and parents have high expectations.
  • Ensure standards of support are effective and comply with current safeguarding regulations.
  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver evidence-led interventions, including literacy, numeracy, self-esteem, and social skills.
  • Assist with the effective deployment and appraisal of Learning Support Assistants (LSAs).
  • Liaise with subject teachers to ensure accurate information is gathered and disseminated.
  • Maintain accurate records of key information relating to students with SEND and ensure relevant information is shared appropriately with staff.
  • Act as the point of contact for both parents and external agencies.
  • Support the Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) process and transitions for students with SEND.
  • Oversee the completion of one-page profiles and support the SENDCo with setting and monitoring targets for students.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Good general education to level 2, including English and Maths (Essential).
  • Evidence of qualifications and/or additional relevant training (Essential).
  • Experience of working with young people with SEND (Essential).
  • Sound understanding of the SEND Code of Practice (Essential).
  • Experience of leading teams (Essential).
  • Knowledge and experience of using basic diagnostic tests for identifying specific needs (Essential).
  • Ability to make and sustain professional relationships with young people (Essential).
  • Skilled at developing self-esteem in young people and motivating them to become resilient, independent learners (Essential).
  • Ability to plan intervention work, assess student needs and progress, and maintain appropriate records (Essential).
  • Able to communicate effectively with stakeholders, orally and in writing (Essential).
