Assistant Shipping Manager Location: Wirral Type: Permanent, Full Time Salary: Competitive salary package, Performance-related bonus, Pension scheme, Healthcare benefits, Employee wellbeing initiatives Russell Taylor Group is working with one of the UKs leading technology manufacturing companies, this role offers the opportunity to take ownership of day-to-day shipping activities, ensuring the efficient movement of goods across domestic and international markets while maintaining high standards of compliance, service and operational performance. Working closely with internal stakeholders, carriers and freight partners, the successful candidate will play a key role in driving efficiency, supporting continuous improvement initiatives and leading a small operational team within a fast-paced environment. The role: • Coordinate end-to-end domestic and international shipments across multiple transport modes. • Liaise with freight providers and carriers to ensure cost-effective and timely deliveries. • Manage shipping documentation including commercial invoices, packing lists, customs declarations and associated export paperwork. • Ensure compliance with customs regulations, HMRC requirements, Incoterms and post-Brexit trading procedures. • Supervise and support a small packing and dispatch team, maintaining productivity and quality standards. • Monitor shipment activity, investigate delays and implement corrective actions where required. • Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce costs and enhance operational performance. • Maintain accurate records and reporting through warehouse and business management systems. • Work collaboratively with internal departments, suppliers and logistics partners to ensure effective communication throughout the supply chain. About You: We are looking for an experienced shipping or logistics professional who can demonstrate: • At least three years' experience within an international shipping, freight or logistics environment. • Previous supervisory or management experience, ideally leading a small operational team. • Strong understanding of customs documentation, international trade compliance, Incoterms and UK import/export procedures. • Knowledge of HMRC requirements and post-Brexit customs processes. • Experience using ERP, WMS or similar operational systems. (Microsoft Dynamics NAV preferred) • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively in a fast-moving environment. • Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to problem solving. • Experience within manufacturing, engineering, technology or product-based businesses would be advantageous. • Professional qualifications relating to logistics, freight or supply chain management would be beneficial but are not essential.
