Job Description - Assistant Swim Teacher

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Assistant Swim Teacher to join our Active Communities team at Enable!

Reports to: Active Communities Manager

Based: Burntwood Swimming Pool

Salary: £21 per hour (inclusive of annual leave)

Contract: Casual 
Work Arrangement: 7 hours per week, Casual contract

Role Overview: 

Reporting to the Active Communities Manager, the Assistant Swim Teacher will be responsible for delivering swimming lessons for 5-15 year-olds of varying abilities based at Burntwood School in Wandsworth.

 

The Active Communities Team are a passionate team who use physical activity to address wider systemic issues within the borough. We put the person at the centre of everything we do, building innovative initiatives that tackle barriers to accessing physical activity. We are experts at creating lasting changes for individuals and communities. 

 

 

Main Duties/Responsibilities 

  • To ensure the safety of children and women in the pool and on pool side.  
  • To assist with independently planning, prepare, deliver and evaluate a series of swimming lessons whilst following Swim England guidelines on the Soakly teaching App. 
  • Work with the lead swimming teacher during swimming sessions taking turns teaching on poolside and in the pool to assist lower-level swimmers.  
  • Provide regular communications to the responsible Active Communities team member with details of the sessions, highlighting any challenges and successes.  
  • To be able to maintain registers and update skill progression for each participant weekly on Soakly Teachers app. 
  • To maintain GDPR standards ensuring no participant data is left out and is stored securely. 
  • Adhere to the Enable Leisure and Culture’s human resources policies.  
  • Commit to evening work during term time around 40 weeks of delivery.
  • Comply with Health & Safety legislation to ensure safe working practices of all staff, public and contractors in the working environment, in accordance with Enable Leisure & Culture and the venue’s safety arrangements, policies and codes. 
  • Be committed to professional development by identifying any training that will assist the role.  
  • To understand the duties and responsibilities arising from the Children’s Act 2004 in relation to safeguarding children and young people. To ensure the appropriate member of staff is made aware and kept fully informed of any concerns which you may have in relation to safeguarding and/or child protection. 

 

The successful candidate will have 

  • Hold a SEQ Level 1 and or a Level 2 Swimming Teaching qualification.  
  • Have a sound knowledge of the Swim England curriculum. 
  • A knowledge and understanding of safeguarding vulnerable adults and young people and its relevance to the role of swimming Teacher/Coach, demonstrating integrity always and a willingness to attend training as required.  
  • Experience of supervising swimming lessons in a leisure or competitive setting.  
  • Experience of casual/freelance coaching/instructing is desirable.  
  • Experience of working collaboratively, in a team setting.  
  • Experience working with young children (Desirable). 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to converse with key people (including colleagues, children, young people, other organisations and the public).  
  • Be able to manage behaviour of participants to ensure sessions are enjoyable and inclusive. 
  • Ability to contribute to the development of training programmes and sessions for groups.  
  • Excellent organisation skills to keep up with admin related tasks such as Soakly registers and swimmer levels.
