Assistant Transport Manager - Nights
Location: Sittingbourne, Kent
Salary: £42,000 - £45,000 per annum (DOE)

Our client operates in a fast-paced environment, delivering chilled, frozen, produce, and ambient goods across the UK. The role will involve managing night operations at their Sittingbourne site, ensuring smooth transport operations and supporting the Transport Manager in driving efficiency and compliance.

Working Hours:

• 4-on-4-off nights (18:00 - 06:00).

As Assistant Transport Manager, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the 24/7 transport operations. Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing the transport team to execute delivery plans efficiently and meet agreed service levels.
• Supporting the Transport Manager in controlling costs within budget expectations.
• Ensuring fleet availability for daily operations and liaising with planners to optimise resource allocation.
• Motivating and developing staff through training programmes and personal development plans.
• Ensuring compliance with all relevant transport regulations and health & safety standards.
• Monitoring vehicle maintenance schedules, MOTs, and service intervals to ensure fleet reliability.
• Communicating with third-party hauliers regarding trailer defects and maintenance issues.
• Reviewing maintenance cost reports and invoices for approval.
• Attending customer review meetings when required and supporting service improvement initiatives.
• Driving continuous improvement by implementing operational changes and ideas to enhance efficiency.
• Deputising for the Transport Manager as needed.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Previous experience in transport management or a similar leadership role within logistics/distribution.
• Strong leadership skills with proven experience in motivating teams and setting clear objectives.
• A commercially focused mindset with excellent problem-solving abilities under pressure.
• Knowledge of transport operations within FMCG environments is highly desirable.
• National or International CPC qualification (preferred but not essential).
