Job Description - Associate Accountant




Our team is currently seeking an ambitious Associate Accountant for our London, U.K office. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the position will support the financial department by undertaking daily accounting tasks and assisting with company operations. This position will be remote and cloud based. Part time to start with the possibility to going full time as our client list grows.

The Associate Accountant plays a key role in supporting the delivery of high‑quality accounting, reporting, and financial operations across Ray Hill International’s cross‑border client portfolio. This role is ideal for early‑career or mid‑level accounting professionals who are detail‑oriented, analytical, and committed to accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement.







You will work closely with senior accountants, tax specialists, and FP&A analysts to ensure timely financial reporting, reconciliations, and compliance with UK GAAP, IFRS, and relevant regulatory frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Accounting & Reporting



  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with UK GAAP and IFRS.


  • Maintain general ledger accuracy, including journal entries, accruals, and prepayments.


  • Assist in month‑end and year‑end close processes.


  • Support consolidation activities for multi‑entity and cross‑border structures.


2. Accounts Payable & Receivable



  • Process supplier invoices, expense claims, and payment runs.


  • Maintain AP/AR aging schedules and follow up on outstanding balances.


  • Reconcile customer and vendor accounts.


3. Reconciliations & Controls



  • Perform bank, credit card, intercompany, and balance sheet reconciliations.


  • Identify discrepancies and propose corrective actions.


  • Support internal control improvements and documentation.


4. Tax & Compliance Support



  • Assist with VAT returns, CIS filings, PAYE reconciliations, and statutory submissions.


  • Prepare supporting schedules for corporate tax filings.


  • Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations and filing deadlines.


5. Audit & Assurance Support



  • Prepare audit schedules and respond to auditor queries.


  • Maintain organised documentation for internal and external audit readiness.


6. Financial Analysis & Insights



  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.


  • Prepare management reports, KPI dashboards, and financial summaries.


  • Provide analytical insights to support decision‑making.


7. Systems & Process Improvement



  • Work with cloud accounting platforms (Xero, QuickBooks, Zoho Books, Sage).


  • Support automation initiatives, workflow optimisation, and data integrity improvements.


  • Contribute to the development of scalable accounting processes for cross‑border operations.







Requirements

Required Qualifications & Skills

Education & Certifications



  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.


  • Part‑qualified or actively pursuing ACCA, ACA, CIMA, or CPA (preferred).


Technical Skills



  • Strong understanding of UK GAAP, IFRS, and HMRC compliance.


  • Proficiency in accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, Zoho Books).


  • Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills (pivot tables, lookups, modelling).


  • Experience with multi‑currency accounting is an advantage.

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.

Preferred Experience



  • 1–3 years of accounting experience (practice or industry).


  • Experience working with SMEs, startups, or cross‑border clients.


  • Exposure to FP&A, audit, or tax preparation is a plus.

Salary Range (UK – Associate Accountant)



  • London: £32,000 – £42,000 per year


  • UK Regions: £26,000 – £36,000 per year


  • Contract/Associate: £18 – £28 per hour


Performance Bonuses
