Job Description - Autism Support Worker - Gloucester
Autism Support Worker - Gloucester
Are you passionate about supporting autistic children and helping them reach their full potential?
A specialist school in Gloucester is looking for a dedicated and compassionate Autism Support Worker to join their team on a full-time basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to work closely with children and young people with Autism, supporting their individual needs and helping them develop essential skills for everyday life.
Pupils within the setting may have a range of needs, including autism, communication and interaction difficulties, sensory needs, learning difficulties and challenges with emotional regulation and behaviour.
As an Autism Support Worker, your responsibilities will include:
Providing tailored 1:1 and small-group support to pupils.
Helping children develop their communication and social interaction skills.
Supporting pupils with sensory needs and emotional regulation.
Encouraging independence through everyday activities and life skills.
Promoting positive behaviour, confidence and engagement.
Establishing supportive relationships and creating a safe, consistent environment.
Working alongside teachers and other specialist staff to meet each pupil's individual needs.
This role offers the chance to make a real difference while gaining valuable hands-on experience within specialist Autism and SEN education. You'll develop your understanding of neurodiversity, sensory processing, communication and behaviour, while helping pupils overcome barriers and celebrate their achievements.
The opportunity could be particularly suited to someone with experience as a Teaching Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant, Autism Support Worker, Support Worker or Care Worker. It would also be an excellent starting point for Psychology or Criminology graduates, or individuals with personal experience of supporting someone with additional needs.
Previous experience working with Autism or SEN is advantageous but not essential. The school is happy to provide support and guidance, so the most important qualities are patience, empathy, resilience and a genuine enthusiasm for helping young people.
