We’re looking for an experienced Automation Engineer to join an established chemical manufacturing business in Staffordshire, with a key focus on DeltaV DCS and plant automation.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who wants to work in a technically interesting process environment, with the chance to get involved in a live DCS project from day one. You’ll play a key role in maintaining and developing the site’s control systems while supporting automation improvements, projects and wider process optimisation.
The role offers a broad mix of hands-on engineering, automation projects, operation work, system modifications and continuous improvement, making it ideal for someone looking to develop their career within a specialist manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage and support PLC, SCADA and DCS systems, with particular focus on Emerson DeltaV.
* Support the ongoing DeltaV DCS project, from implementation through to commissioning and optimisation.
* Carry out fault finding and software/hardware modifications across control and automation systems.
* Support the site's Operational Technology (OT) systems and infrastructure.
* Lead and support C&I improvement and capital projects.
* Support alarm management, process optimisation and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Ensure C&I activities comply with relevant engineering, safety and regulatory standards.
* Work closely with Operations, Maintenance and Engineering teams to improve plant reliability and performance.
* Provide technical support, guidance and training to site personnel where required.
About You
You’ll ideally have:
* A degree or equivalent qualification in Control, Instrumentation, Electrical or Automation Engineering.
* Hands-on DeltaV experience within a Batch environment – essential.
* Experience with PLCs, SCADA and industrial control systems.
* A good understanding of functional safety, SIL and Safety Systems.
* Knowledge of C&I engineering standards, HSE legislation and regulatory requirements.
* Experience supporting maintenance and plant engineering activities.
* Strong problem-solving, communication and organisational skills.
* Experience managing engineering projects, budgets or technical modifications.
