Job Description - Band 6 IBD CNS (inflammatory bowel disease) - Gastroenterology

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) team at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. The IBD team provides a vital role delivering high quality care to our patients.

This role would be suited to an individual who is highly motivated, committed and enthusiastic and has a desire to develop and consolidate knowledge and skills in caring for patients.

The post is an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team caring for patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease, involving specialised nursing skills and leadership competencies which contribute to the effective and economical use of available resources

The successful candidate will work alongside a team of specialist nurses to support them in delivering specialist care to our IBD Patients. You must be able to work independently as well as working as part of a team.

We are looking for an individual who is an enthusiastic team player, caring as well as hardworking to join our team.

We will provide a stimulating and challenging role for you with full support to integrate into the multidisciplinary team of IBD & Gastroenterology.

Main duties of the job

Main duties, tasks & skills required

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to improve the skills of patient education and support, time/caseload management, working in a clinic area, monitoring/screening, medicines manipulation, both autonomous and collaborative working. As well as increasing knowledge of Inflammatory Bowel Disease and its management, the nurse will be privileged to be involved with patients for long period of time, including supporting them through major life events. Specialist nursing also opens doors for professional personal development in expanded and advanced practice and research for instance. There are many opportunities for clinical support within the trust and nationally with access to a very active national support network of IBD nurses.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • *Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration
  • *Evidence of post registration CPD / post registration qualification in appropriate area of speciality or professional knowledge supplemented by specialist experience and short courses to FHEQ Level 6
  • *NMP V300/Willing to study Non Medical Prescribing qualification


Experience

Essential

  • *Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC
  • *Significant post registration experience, with evidence of passion/ enthusiasm and knowledge for the associated area of specialist practice
  • *Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of on-going professional development/ competence
  • *Demonstrate specialist knowledge underpinned by theory and CPD relevant to speciality
  • *Experience and enthusiasm for teaching/assessing and supervising others in a clinical setting
  • *Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary and cross agency work environment
  • *Demonstrate understanding / experience / willingness to be a practice-based supervisor / assessor as detailed in the NMC


Desirable

  • *Experience in service development
