Role overview


We are looking for experienced Ophthalmic Nurses or Ophthalmic Assistants to join our bank team at our Cheshire Oaks site. This is a zero-hour contract offering flexibility to work in either clinic or theatre, depending on your experience.


 



  • Theatre-based roles require NMC registration and involve supporting patients through their surgical journey, including pre-operative assessments, intraoperative assistance, and post-operative care.


 



  • Clinic-based roles focus on outpatient support and diagnostic testing. NMC registration is not required for clinic-only roles, but relevant ophthalmic experience is essential.


 


Due to the nature of the bank role, previous experience in ophthalmology (as a nurse or assistant) is essential, as we are unable to provide training.


 


Our services are busy, we can typically see 18-22 patients a day in our high-volume cataract surgery provision, so you’ll thrive working in an efficient and fast paced environment. You can also be supporting the consultant in outpatient clinics, undertaking diagnostic testing as required. You’ll be maintaining accurate patient records and in all you do you’ll ensure the highest standards are met in terms of patient safety, confidentiality, clinical compliance and hygiene levels.


 


What skills and experience do I need?



Previous experience as an Ophthalmic Assistant or Ophthalmic Nurse in a clinic or theatre setting is essential.


 


The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of Biometry/Corneal Topography/ OCT/ FFA/ IOP along with skills conducting diagnostic assessments in Visual Acuity/ IOP checks either Tonopen/Goldman Tonometer Visual Fields/ Pachymetry/ Slit Lamp Skills.


 


Alongside the mandatory qualifications the following things will be advantageous:


 



  • Previous hospital eye service or private eye clinic experience

  • Knowledge of clinical practice and aware of current developments in Optometry

  • Capable of working in a fast paced, high-volume clinical setting

  • The training and coaching of others

  • The desire for and commitment to continuous professional development

  • A competent user of computer systems and programmes

  • An excellent grasp of the English language both verbally and in written format

  • A good team player – happy to jump in and support others when required
