We are seeking a Wellbeing Advisor to join our Retirement Village in Berkhamsted on a casual, as-needed basis. This role requires a flexible and reliable individual who is able to work a variety of shifts across Monday to Sunday, depending on service needs. Shift patterns may include daytime hours (08:00–14:00), afternoon/evening shifts (14:00–20:00), and occasional night shifts (20:00–08:00) to provide cover during staff absence or leave.
IWe are looking for a compassionate and capable individual who is committed to supporting the safety and wellbeing of residents. Ideally, you will hold a valid First Aid certificate and be registered with the DBS Update Service (a DBS check can be arranged for the right candidate). You will be able to communicate clearly in English, remain calm in emergency situations, and show a willingness to attend training, which may occasionally take place at other locations across the UK.
You will be a good listener, able to work effectively as part of a team, and confident working on your own initiative, including lone working when required. You will feel comfortable engaging with residents in a respectful and person-centred way.
In this role, you will support residents to feel safe, informed, and confident in their environment. Your responsibilities will include responding promptly to emergency calls, assessing situations, and providing appropriate support, including first aid where required. You will help residents and team members understand how to use the emergency call system and support new residents to settle in safely by completing wellbeing baseline assessments before they move into the village.
You will contribute to promoting overall wellbeing by sharing information, raising awareness of key health topics relevant to over-55s, and encouraging participation in self-help groups. You will work collaboratively with emergency services when needed and communicate clearly with residents, families, and colleagues during incidents. You will also support the wider village team by sharing wellbeing knowledge, including promoting healthy eating and heart-smart lifestyle choices.
Maintaining accurate and clear records of incidents and providing emotional reassurance and support to residents will be an important part of your role.
This position is subject to satisfactory DBS clearance, references, medical clearance, and proof of the right to work in the UK.
Ideally, you will have experience in a similar role, such as emergency response or healthcare support, along with knowledge of primary care services and referral processes. A valid CPR/First Aid qualification is required, and you should feel confident responding to emergencies, including administering CPR, managing choking incidents, and using specialist equipment such as defibrillators or evacuation aids.
You will bring strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to stay composed under pressure, and a genuine understanding of and empathy for older adults. Physical ability to respond quickly and safely to emergencies, including assisting residents when needed, is essential.
