CONTRACT TYPE: Fixed Term, 8 month contract with potential to be extended to complete filming and offline edit.

DEPARTMENT: BBC Studios NHU

LOCATION: Bridgewater House, Bristol - hybrid working. 

PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £66,100 - £91,500 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

START DATE: November/December 2026.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Following the recent success of Asia, The Americas and Kingdom, we are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Producer/ Director to work on a new and ambitious landmark production which delivers in Spring/Summer 2029.

The role will involve taking responsibility for two landmark films/episodes.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT: 

• Lead and manage teams across two episodes through research and development to identify compelling, achievable character-led stories.
• Create engaging story boards and relatable narratives that get the most out of animal characters.
• Work alongside the series producer and executive producer to ensure sequences fit the editorial brief and reflect the ambition and creative direction of the series.
• Work effectively to ensure all content is thoroughly researched and meets the BBC’s editorial standards.
• Plan strategically to ensure editorial aspirations align with schedule, budget and available resources.
• Oversee and manage the logistics of complex shoots.
• Oversee the health and safety of your team’s shoots, often in highly specialized areas of filming.
• To have a duty of care to the team, to the animals that you are filming, to the location where you are working and to the wider environment.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

• You must have produced at least two sequence-based major landmark films and/or series produced a blue-chip series for broadcast.


• Highly organised great people manager with excellent communication skills and proven experience managing, motivating and supporting large teams.


• Ability to delegate and guide team members through research, set-up and capture of sequences to the highest standard.


• Able to problem solve when faced with challenging circumstances, be organised and have a track record in successful management of budgets in close collaboration with production management.


• Resilience and stamina to work under pressure across two episodes simultaneously and the ability to remain calm and supportive of your teams.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA:

• Experience of working with presenters and on-screen contributors.


• Strong writing skills for a wide range of editorial tasks including programme overviews, scripting and story pitches.


• A specialist knowledge of the African continent and the wildlife that lives there, and experience of working in challenging environments. 


• Experience delivering assets for digital/social and promotional campaigns.
