Job Description - Behaviour Lead

Job title: Behaviour Lead

Reporting to: Head Teacher

Location: The Corner School, Douglas Avenue, Brent, London

Salary: £35,000-£45,000 per annum depending on experience (pro rata to term-time only, including paid 6.6 weeks holiday allowance £30,692 - £39,462)

Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday

Contract: Term Time only (39 weeks)

About the role

As Behaviour Lead at The Corner School, you’ll play a central role in our small, nurturing community. This new role reports directly to the Head Teacher and is an exciting opportunity to shape how we support children with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. You will lead our whole-school approach to behaviour, embedding reward and behaviour systems rooted in our therapeutic ethos. By modelling excellent in-class practice and mentoring staff, you will help create a consistent, clear and caring experience for pupils, families and colleagues.

Above all, you’ll be someone who believes that with the right support, every child can feel safe, learn well and flourish.

We’ll look to you to:

Shape our behaviour strategy

  • Develop, implement and review behaviour systems that reflect our therapeutic approach.

  • Keep behaviour policies and procedures up to date and applied consistently across the school, ensuring approaches are safe and appropriate at all times.

  • Support the Head Teacher and Inclusion Lead in monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on risk assessment processes.

Bring behaviour support to life every day

  • Work in-class to model effective behaviour management.

  • Review and update pupil support plans and RAMPs (Risk Assessment Management Plans).

  • Build strong relationships with pupils, staff and families.

Lead on Safe Holding (PRICE – Protecting Rights in a Caring Environment)

  • Deliver PRICE training and new staff inductions.

  • Support restorative conversations and wellbeing for pupils and staff following incidents.

Support and develop colleagues

  • Provide training to build staff confidence in behaviour management and de-escalation.

  • Lead behaviour-focused reflections in team meetings and contribute to staff development conversations.

  • Support recruitment processes by helping assess candidates’ behaviour management skills.

We’ll care for you, too:

At The Corner School, you’ll join a kind, committed team who look out for one another. We know this work can be demanding as well as hugely rewarding, so we do our best to make sure staff feel supported, listened to and able to thrive. You’ll also benefit from a generous package of wellbeing, financial and development support, including:

  • Competitive salary

  • Pension scheme (6% employer contribution).

  • Funded Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

  • Cash Health Plan

  • Employee Assistance Programme (24/7 support).

  • Enhanced family leave and sick pay.

  • 6.6 weeks paid annual leave.

  • Inclusive, trauma-informed workplace with strong wellbeing support.

About you

You’ll be someone who believes deeply in the potential of children with SEMH needs, demonstrates a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion and who responds with patience, empathy and consistency, even when things feel challenging. You’ll enjoy working as part of a close-knit team, be calm under pressure, and bring warmth, curiosity and professionalism to every interaction with pupils, families and colleagues.

We’re looking for:

  • A good standard of education, including GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths.

  • Significant knowledge and experience in behaviour management, support and de-escalation in a specialist education setting.

  • Previous experience working with vulnerable primary-aged pupils with SEND, including complex needs and trauma.

  • A track record of developing, implementing and reporting on behaviour strategies, systems and initiatives.

  • Experience in mentoring, designing and delivering training & INSET sessions to colleagues.

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with children, families and professionals.

  • Strong IT and record-keeping skills, with the ability to manage workload effectively and balance different aspects of the role.

  • Ability to motivate, support and appropriately challenge staff as they develop their skills.

  • A strong understanding, responsibility & a clear commitment to safeguarding and child protection; contributing to safe practice across the school in line with policies and procedures.

It would also be great (but not essential) if you have:

  • A relevant degree and/or SEN-related qualifications or CPD.

  • Qualified Teacher Status.

You’ll be working each day with children who may have experienced trauma and who can sometimes display verbally or physically challenging behaviour. You’ll need to feel confident managing higher-than-average emotional demands, following risk assessments and using de-escalation and physical intervention techniques where necessary and appropriate.
