Job Description - Behaviour Mentor

Behaviour Mentor | Belper, DE56 | £450 - £500 Per Week (after deductions) | Long Term to Permanent | ASAP

LTF Recruitment are working in partnership with an outstanding-rated independent special school, providing day and residential education for children and young people aged 5-20 with High-Functioning Autism, Developmental Language Disorder, and related needs such as PDA, Selective Mutism, anxieties, and phobias. The school have one of the largest teams of speech & Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists in the UK.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group behavioural and emotional regulation interventions, focusing primarily on KS3 pupils.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and SEN staff to embed positive behaviour strategies across learning environments.
  • Build trusting, empathetic relationships with students, understanding and responding to their needs with structure and sensitivity.
  • Apply adaptive strategies to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours, enabling engagement and progression.
  • Develop, monitor, and review individual behaviour improvement plans, coordinating with pastoral leads and parents where necessary.

Key Qualifications & Personal Attributes:

  • Experience supporting KS3 students with SEN and behavioural needs, ideally within special education, residential, or therapeutic school settings.
  • Minimum Level 3 qualification in Education, Psychology, Health and Social Care, SEN, Behaviour Support, or related field (desirable).
  • Naturally patient, resilient, and empathetic, with a calm, consistent approach.
  • Excellent communication & de-escalation skills. Confident liaising with senior leaders, therapists, parents, and external professionals.
