We are seeking an experienced and technically capable BIM Technician to lead and develop our Building Information Modelling (BIM) capability, supporting the design and manufacture of off-site manufactured technical spaces, electrical switchrooms, mechanical pods and modular MEP solutions for mission-critical infrastructure and data-centre projects.
This is a hands-on role requiring a high level of proficiency in Autodesk Revit and 3D modelling, combined with responsibility for BIM standards, model coordination, information management and the development of efficient digital engineering workflows.
The successful candidate will work closely with electrical, mechanical, structural, manufacturing and project teams to develop coordinated, fabrication-ready models that can be manufactured off-site and successfully integrated into the client's overall building and infrastructure design.
Role Profile:
This position would suit an experienced BIM Technician / BIM Coordinator / Senior Revit Technician who combines strong BIM management capability with the willingness and technical ability to remain hands-on in Revit.
The role is particularly suited to someone who understands that BIM within an off-site manufacturing environment goes beyond producing coordinated construction models. The objective is to develop accurate, buildable and fabrication-ready digital models that directly support procurement, manufacture, assembly, transportation and installation of complex mission-critical infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
Revit Modelling & Design:
Produce detailed 3D Revit models for modular technical spaces, electrical switchrooms, mechanical plantrooms and MEP pods.
Develop models from concept and tender stage through detailed design, manufacture, installation and as-built information.
Produce coordinated General Arrangement (GA) drawings, plans, elevations, sections and detailed installation drawings directly from Revit models.
Model electrical equipment including LV switchgear, MV/HV equipment, transformers, UPS systems, generators, busbar systems, containment and associated infrastructure.
Model mechanical systems and equipment including pipework, pumps, valves, cooling equipment, ventilation systems, ductwork and associated services.
Incorporate structural steelwork, modular frames, flooring, wall and ceiling systems into coordinated models.
Develop accurate equipment layouts incorporating required access, maintenance, operational and replacement clearances.
Produce manufacturing and fabrication information suitable for off-site production.
Create and maintain Revit families for standard equipment, components and modular products.
BIM Management & Coordination:
Take ownership of BIM implementation and standards across projects.
Establish and maintain project BIM Execution Plans (BEPs) and modelling standards.
Ensure compliance with client BIM requirements, Employers Information Requirements (EIR), project information standards and relevant ISO 19650 principles.
Manage model structures, naming conventions, parameters, classification systems, coordinates and shared data.
Coordinate internal electrical, mechanical and structural models with external consultant and client models.
Manage federated models and undertake regular multidisciplinary design reviews.
Carry out clash detection and coordination, identifying and resolving issues before manufacture.
Manage model revisions and ensure manufacturing teams are working from current approved information.
Maintain appropriate levels of information and model detail throughout the project lifecycle.
Design for Manufacture & Assembly (DfMA):
A key element of the position is ensuring that BIM models accurately represent what will be manufactured.
Responsibilities include:
Develop models using DfMA principles specifically for modular and off-site construction.
Work closely with manufacturing and production teams to ensure designs are practical and buildable.
Coordinate equipment, steelwork, containment, pipework, ductwork and services within restricted modular envelopes.
Consider transportation constraints including module dimensions, weight, lifting arrangements and transport splits.
Coordinate lifting points, temporary works requirements and installation interfaces where applicable.
Develop repeatable modular designs and standardised assemblies.
Support development of configurable and repeatable product solutions.
Incorporate manufacturing feedback into BIM standards and Revit content.
Identify opportunities to reduce manufacturing time, installation time and site interfaces through improved digital design.
Mission Critical / Data Centre Coordination:
Support technically complex projects where programme, resilience, maintainability and installation accuracy are critical.
Typical environments include:
Hyperscale, DLC and colocation data centres
Mission-critical facilities
Modular electrical rooms
LV and MV switchrooms
UPS and battery rooms
Generator and power modules
Mechanical plantrooms
Cooling modules
Pump and valve skids
Prefabricated MEP assemblies
The BIM Technician will ensure designs accommodate operational and maintenance requirements while maintaining the spatial constraints associated with modular construction.
Drawing & Information Production:
Produce and manage:
General Arrangement drawings
Equipment layouts
Plans and elevations
Sections and construction details
MEP coordination drawings
Manufacturing drawings
Installation drawings
Builders-work/interface drawings
Equipment schedules
Penetration and opening schedules
Module interface drawings
As-built models and drawings
Client BIM/model deliverables
Project & Client Coordination:
Attend internal and external design coordination meetings.
Participate in BIM coordination and clash-resolution meetings with clients and consultants.
Liaise with architects, structural engineers, MEP consultants, specialist subcontractors and equipment manufacturers.
Review incoming consultant/client models and identify design conflicts or missing information.
Support Project Managers and Engineering Managers in resolving technical issues.
Clearly communicate BIM/design issues through model reviews, drawings and coordination reports.
Support technical submissions and design approvals.
Software & Technical Skills
Essential Ability Requirements:
Advanced Autodesk Revit capability.
Strong 3D modelling and technical drawing production skills.
