Job Description - Bookkeeper

"Success isn't about the money you make; it is about the difference you make in people's lives."

Sheridan Maine is proud to be working in partnership with a highly regarded chartered accountancy firm in High Wycombe, who are looking to recruit a Bookkeeper. This is a fantastic opportunity for a detail-oriented and proactive finance professional who is keen to progress into an Account Manager role in the future.

The firm prides itself on delivering exceptional client service and developing long-standing relationships through regular communication, technical expertise, and a client-first approach.

You will work within a supportive team environment where training, development, and continuous improvement are at the heart of the business.

Your responsibilities as the Bookkeeper will include:
  • Manage day-to-day bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients across various sectors.
  • Maintain accurate financial records, including bank feed updates and transaction processing.
  • Perform regular reconciliations of bank, VAT, PAYE, and CIS accounts.
  • Prepare and submit VAT and CIS returns, advising clients of liabilities and seeking approvals.
  • Calculate and report provisional Corporation Tax liabilities to clients
  • Conduct quarterly reviews of aged debtor and creditor reports and advise clients accordingly
  • Prepare self-assessment tax returns for clients with straightforward income profiles (e.g., salary and dividends).
  • Review trial balances in preparation for year-end accounts.
  • Undertake software training (e.g., QuickBooks certification) with the aim of offering training to clients in the future.
  • Track and record time spent per client and per activity to support accurate billing and cost analysis.
  • Assist the Office Manager with administrative tasks including AML checks, due diligence, and other compliance-related procedures.

To be considered for the role of Bookkeeper, you will require:
  • Proven experience in a bookkeeping or similar finance role, ideally within an accountancy practice.
  • A genuine desire to succeed in your role and promote the business.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication and client relationship skills.
  • Ambition to progress into a client-facing Account Manager role over time.
  • A positive and professional approach with a commitment to high service standards.

What’s on Offer:
  • Competitive salary package.
  • Clear career progression towards an Account Manager role.
  • Full training and support, including software certification.
  • Involvement in a variety of tasks beyond bookkeeping, contributing to broader office operations.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to build a long-term career in accountancy and client management within a progressive and supportive practice.

To apply, please submit your CV or contact Sheridan Maine for more information.
