We're recruiting for an experienced Structures Engineer to join a well-established highways team delivering a varied programme of structure replacement, refurbishment and improvement schemes across Essex. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with strong technical expertise in highway structures design who is looking to take ownership of schemes, provide technical leadership, and mentor junior engineers while working on complex and high-profile infrastructure projects.
The Role Reporting to the Team Leader, you'll be responsible for planning, coordinating and delivering highway structures schemes from design through to implementation. You'll play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high technical standard, while working collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include: ·Leading the design, planning and programming of highway structures works ·Delivering structure replacement, refurbishment and improvement schemes ·Applying design standards including Eurocodes, DMRB and MCHW ·Providing clear technical and project leadership across assigned schemes ·Managing and monitoring works programmes and consultant/contractor performance ·Ensuring compliance with CDM Regulations and Health & Safety policies ·Mentoring junior staff and checking technical outputs
·Supporting budget management, governance and cost control
About You
We're keen to speak with candidates who combine strong technical capability with the confidence to lead and collaborate effectively. You'll ideally have: ·Proven experience in highway structures design and delivery ·Strong knowledge of Eurocodes, DMRB and modern design standards ·Working knowledge of contract specifications and the Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCHW) ·Extensive understanding of highway legislation, structures procedures and industry best practice ·Experience of budgetary management and commercial awareness ·A solid understanding and application of CDM and Health & Safety legislation ·The ability to mentor and support junior engineers
