Job Description - Brockworth Health & Safety Officer

We are looking for a Health & Safety Officer to join our team at Wincanton based across the exciting EDF and HPC contract based out of the Brockworth site. We are looking for an experienced Health and Safety professional to join our already established team who are Helping Britain Achieve Net Zero. The role is a key part of the day to day running and successful delivery of the contract working closely with and supporting the operations team.

Successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain security clearance prior to commencing employment, this includes being able to provide a minimum of 3 years consecutive UK employment/education & residential history.

Day to Day

  • Play a key role in supporting the delivery of the Health, Safety and Environmental strategies in accordance with Wincanton’s internal procedures 
  • Support and lead the creation of Management Plans, Rick Assessments and Safe Systems of Work (SSOW)
  • Ensure all standards meet legislation and advise on and share best practice 
  • Ensure all sites achieve or surpass the targets set by Wincanton, driving standards from the outset to ensure accidents, incidents and lost time injuries are avoided 
  • Drive a positive and proactive safety culture throughout all levels of the team to promote operational excellence in safety behaviours 
  • Fully support internal and external audit processes inclusive of ISO certifications 
  • Co-ordination of all site Health, Safety and Environmental activities including committees, training and communications to ensure sites remain compliant 
  • Develop appropriate HSE knowledge and expertise within the team 
  • Support accident investigation and reporting ensuring accurate root causes are identified with adequate corrective actions implemented to prevent reoccurrence 
  • Ensure that all hazards, near misses, accidents and incidents are recorded correctly and where necessary, escalated within a timely manner using the Wincanton and Client systems
  • Ensure that all contractors working on sites are “approved”, have been vetted and have submitted the correct up to date documentation including Permit to Works, Defects, equipment suitability and conformity, follow up requirements, inductions and pass control
  • Chair, present and record minutes from HSE meetings pursuing closure on actions and escalating where necessary
  • Be pro-active in decision making based on analysis, experience, judgement and intuition but recognise when to escalate 
  • Support the creation and maintenance of HSE related plans across sites utilising the Group documents and strategies 

What will you bring?

  • Currently holds or working towards a relevant Health and Safety qualification such as NEBOSH, IOSH, CITB Managers & Professionals or similar would be advantageous
  • Experience of HSE in an operational area, preferably in a logistics operation
  • Experience of working with third party service providers to resolve issues
  • Proactive, effective, and motivated team player who can demonstrate a strong capability of engaging with the workforce and stakeholders and effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing 
  • Remains calm and works well under pressure in tight deadline situations, displaying exceptional organisational skills 
  • Must be IT literate with a knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new client systems
  • Experience of working to ISO standards would be of benefit
