Broker Risk Selection Manager

Role Description

Allianz Personal are looking for a Risk Selection Manager to join our Personal Lines Broker Standard Motor Pricing & Underwriting team. In this leadership role, you will  lead a team of Underwriters and Pricing Analysts to deliver sustainable profitable growth, pro-active broker account performance management and excellent customer outcomes.

You will play a key role in the day to day management of Standard Motor broker account performance, identifying emerging risks and opportunities, and working closely with  Portfolio Pricing, Commercial Trading, Distribution, Product Delivery teams, as well as our brokers, to ensure our broker propositions remain competitive and sustainable.

Location: This role is based in either our London or Chelmsford offices, please note that this is a hybrid working role with the expectation that attend the office 50% of your time.

Pay is based on experience, skills and location, and forms part of our total rewards package.

About You

• You will lead a team of Underwriters and Pricing Analysts, creating a high-performing and collaborative environment.


• You will deliver broker KPIs through effective underwriting governance, pricing action and risk management.


• You will monitor motor portfolio performance, identifying trends, opportunities and areas requiring corrective action.


• You will work closely with the Portfolio Pricing, Technical Pricing & Underwriting, Claims, Commercial Trading, Distribution and Product Delivery teams to drive profitable growth and strong customer outcomes.


• You will use internal and external data (including unique broker data) and market insight to support underwriting and pricing strategy, product development and portfolio optimisation.


• You will provide coaching, mentoring and technical leadership, supporting the ongoing development of underwriting and pricing capability.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience managing broker performance to deliver against targets within a personal lines insurance environment.


• Strong understanding of pricing and underwriting principles, broker book management, data enrichment and risk selection.


• Experience leading and developing technical teams, including underwriters, analysts and pricing professionals.


• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex performance, risk and market data.


• Strong stakeholder management skills with experience influencing decisions across multiple business functions.


• Ability to lead cross-function teams to deliver on broker specific projects, ranging from delivery of new products, to assessment and incorporation of unique data enrichment.


• Commercial awareness with the ability to balance growth, profitability and customer outcomes.  This to include pro-active account management and identification of divergence from targets and formulation of corrective action for stakeholder approval.


• Confident presentation and communication skills, with the ability to translate technical insight into business actions.

Desirable Skills

• Experience working closely with pricing models, segmentation strategies and portfolio optimisation techniques.


• Knowledge of insurance pricing tools, machine learning models or related analytical technologies.


• Relevant pricing and underwriting qualifications or equivalent industry experience.


• Ability to utilise Artificial Intelligence tools, understanding their appropriateness and limitations.
