Due to continued growth, we are looking for a professional Building Surveyor / Roof Surveyor to join our team. We are open to candidates from several backgrounds. You may already be an experienced Building Surveyor, Property Surveyor, Condition Surveyor or Roof Surveyor looking to specialise further in roofing. You may be RICS qualified, working towards RICS membership, or have developed your surveying experience through another professional route. Alternatively, you may be an experienced former roofing professional who has moved, or is looking to move, into surveying and inspection work. What matters most is that you are professional, dependable, technically minded and capable of making evidence-based decisions. About the Role This is a specialist surveying position rather than a roofing sales or contracting role. UK Roof Surveys does not undertake remedial roofing works. Our surveyors independently establish the condition of a roof, identify defects and their likely causes, and provide clients with clear evidence-based findings. You will carry out inspections including: Pre-purchase and homebuyer roof surveys Roof condition surveys Leak and defect investigations Drone roof inspections Internal roof-space inspections Workmanship and installation assessments Repair versus replacement assessments Independent contractor recommendation reviews As you develop within the company, opportunities may also arise to work on commercial properties, housing portfolios, complex investigations and post-works quality assurance. What You’ll Inspect Our surveys consider the roof as a complete system, including where applicable: Natural slate Clay and concrete roof tiles Flat roofing systems Leadwork and flashings Valleys and abutments Ridges and verges Chimneys Underlays and battens Roof ventilation Visible insulation Roof structures and loft spaces Previous repairs and alterations Internal evidence of water ingress General workmanship and installation quality Who We’re Looking For We are deliberately open-minded about professional background. Suitable applicants could include: Building Surveyors Residential Surveyors Property Surveyors Condition Surveyors Stock Condition Surveyors Roof Surveyors Building Inspectors Clerk of Works / Quality Inspectors RICS-qualified surveyors Surveyors working towards RICS membership Experienced former roofing professionals with appropriate technical knowledge RICS membership is welcomed but is not essential for this position. Candidates without extensive specialist roofing experience will receive training in the UK Roof Surveys inspection methodology and roofing defect assessment. Likewise, candidates coming from a roofing background will receive training in our professional surveying, evidence gathering and reporting standards. We therefore need someone who: Turns up when they say they will Communicates professionally with clients Records evidence thoroughly Does not make assumptions where evidence is insufficient Is comfortable asking for technical support when required Can follow a consistent inspection methodology Takes pride in producing accurate work Can manage their own diary and workload responsibly Essential Requirements Relevant surveying, property inspection, building pathology or substantial roofing experience Strong understanding of residential buildings Ability to identify defects and investigate likely causes Excellent attention to detail Good written and verbal communication Comfortable using digital inspection/reporting systems Full UK driving licence Willingness to travel Ability to work independently Professional and dependable approach Desirable Experience / Qualifications Any of the following would be advantageous but are not mandatory: MRICS / AssocRICS Building Surveying degree or equivalent Residential surveying experience Stock condition surveying Building pathology experience Roofing inspection experience Practical roofing background Clerk of Works / quality inspection experience Drone qualification or experience Thermal imaging experience Working at Height training Asbestos Awareness CSCS Experience producing professional inspection reports Training Every successful candidate will be trained in the UK Roof Surveys inspection methodology, regardless of their previous experience. This includes: Roofing systems and materials Common roofing failure mechanisms Defect diagnosis Evidence gathering Photographic standards Internal and external inspection procedures Repair versus replacement assessment Remaining service-life considerations Digital inspection systems UK Roof Surveys reporting standards Client communication Technical escalation procedures Initial inspections will be supervised and reviewed before the successful candidate progresses to independent surveying. Complex or unusual findings can be escalated to senior technical support. Career Development UK Roof Surveys is developing its surveying operation nationally. For the right person, this role therefore offers the opportunity to progress beyond residential surveying into areas including: Senior Roof Surveyor Commercial roof inspections Complex defect diagnosis Housing portfolio condition surveys Contractor recommendation validation Post-works quality assurance Surveyor training and supervision Technical report review and quality assurance We are looking for someone who wants to develop with the company rather than simply complete a daily list of appointments. We do not undertake the roofing works we recommend. Our inspection fee remains the same whether our conclusion is that a roof requires replacement, repair, monitoring or no immediate work. This allows our surveyors to concentrate on one thing: Establishing what the evidence actually shows. We combine specialist roofing knowledge with structured inspection, photographic evidence and professional reporting to give clients an independent assessment of one of the most important components of their property.
