Commodity Buyer - Building & Construction (UK)

Location: Broughton - Hybrid, - 3 days a week in the office as a minimum with Tuesday and Thursday mandatory
Contract: 12 months, strong likelihood of extension - Standard 35 hours per week (working 4.5 days between the hours of 7am - 7pm, hours agreed at business discretion)

Rate: £44.00 Inside IR35 Umbrella

Security clearance level required: BPSS+ Clearance (Completed by onsite Security)

The Commodity Buyer is responsible for leading strategic procurement activities within the Building & Construction category, supporting a diverse portfolio of construction, facilities, and infrastructure projects. Operating across a multi-site and international environment, the role will drive procurement excellence, deliver commercial value, and establish high-performing supplier partnerships that support long-term business objectives.

The position offers the opportunity to influence major capital investment programmes, including industrial facilities, office environments, technical buildings, clean rooms, production facilities, and specialist infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Procurement & Category Management

Implement category and procurement strategies in alignment with business requirements and long-term organisational objectives.
Lead sourcing activities and competitive tender processes across a broad range of building and construction services.
Manage procurement projects with cross-functional and multi-divisional stakeholders.
Support the development and enhancement of category strategies through market intelligence, benchmarking, cost analysis, and make-versus-buy assessments.
Identify opportunities to harmonise requirements, standardise specifications, aggregate volumes, and optimise demand.

Supplier & Contract Management

Develop and maintain a robust supplier base capable of delivering high-quality services in line with business needs.
Build and sustain strategic relationships with key suppliers and stakeholders.
Lead commercial negotiations and establish national and international framework agreements.
Ensure contractual commitments are delivered against agreed cost, quality, and schedule requirements.
Monitor supplier performance through KPI-driven reviews and implement corrective actions where required.
Proactively manage commercial and contractual risks.

Project & Stakeholder Leadership

Lead cross-functional project teams, balancing business priorities, customer requirements, supplier capabilities, and budget constraints.
Challenge and validate project specifications to ensure optimum commercial outcomes.
Provide procurement expertise and governance throughout project lifecycles.
Support operational teams by providing guidance on procurement processes, policies, and best practices.
Drive stakeholder satisfaction through responsive, value-added procurement support.

Performance & Continuous Improvement

Deliver savings and cost optimisation initiatives aligned with business targets.
Monitor procurement performance and demand management activities.
Contribute to the implementation of innovative procurement tools and techniques, including digital procurement solutions.
Ensure compliance with procurement policies, governance requirements, and ethical standards.
Maintain clear and effective communication, reporting, and performance tracking.

Achievement of procurement savings and performance targets.
Development of efficient and competitive local and international supplier networks.
Effective contract negotiation and management with reduced commercial risk.
High levels of internal stakeholder satisfaction.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications

Degree or Master's qualification in Procurement, Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, Architecture, Construction, or a related discipline.
Strong understanding of procurement strategy, supply chain management, market analysis, and contract management principles.Experience

Minimum of five years' experience within Procurement, Operations, Facilities Management, or a related discipline.
Proven experience developing and implementing procurement strategies.
Demonstrated success managing complex sourcing and tender activities.
Building & Construction category experience is highly desirable.
Construction project management experience would be advantageous.Skills & Expertise

Advanced negotiation and commercial management skills.
Strong knowledge of construction and procurement contracts.
Excellent project management capabilities with experience leading cross-functional teams.
Strong financial and analytical skills, including business case development and KPI analysis.
Ability to influence stakeholders at all levels and manage competing priorities.
