Salary: £60,000 - £72,000 depending on skills and expertise

This is a high-profile role within the business, that is responsible for leading the growth arm of the company. The Business Development team is central to that growth strategy, advising government on new schemes. The team also advises the company’s Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and Board on the risks and opportunities of taking on new delivery body roles from government.

The role will report to the Head of Policy, Regulation & Development which resides within the Strategy & Development Directorate. The role holder will work in close collaboration with several internal and external stakeholders. You will manage a team, responsible for undertaking all necessary strategic and operational impact assessments and identifying future growth areas for the business. This will include the development of a business development strategy focused on organic growth as well as acceleration and deceleration opportunities based on the strategic appetite of the business.

Responsibilities:
Undertake longer-term horizon scanning of the commercial and policy debate in relevant parts of the energy sector, with an aim to understand key developments, identify areas of growth and communicate these to the business.
Working closely with government departments, industry, the policy team and other stakeholders, develop schemes from inception to board sign off, before handing over to scheme delivery.
Assess the strategic and operational impact of potential new schemes, from a capacity, capability and reputational stance, and be able to provide clear recommendations and risks to the board and Senior leadership team.
Lead on process improvement initiatives with regard to internal governance and sign-off procedures.
Support the development of the short, medium and long term business and corporate strategy from a business development perspective.
Develop a tailored business development strategy, and implement as necessary.
Build corporate knowledge in new scheme areas.

Personal Specification:
Background in Management Consultancy or Public Policy
Experience of working with government or regulators
Previous Line management experience
Background in strategic and operational impact assessments of risks and opportunities for companies or government for major investments or initiatives;
Delivering and managing projects on time, cost and quality with appropriate controls and governance;
Ability to manage a fast paced pipeline of opportunities in accordance with multiple deadlines across multiple different opportunities;
Advanced communication skills (verbal and written), able to communicate complex ideas effectively to senior leaders;
Ability to influence and build positive internal and external working relationships across different teams and organisations;
Well-developed qualitative and quantitative research skills with the ability to extract and analyse relevant information to make sound judgements;
Experience of working with a range of stakeholders, ideally within the public and utilities sector
Knowledge or experience of the Net Zero investment challenge
Knowledge of relevant Government policies likely to impact on the electricity and decarbonisation sectors and wider energy landscape.
