Job Title: Business Development Consultant – Science Apprenticeships
Location: Home Based (with travel to clients and industry events as required) Salary: £28,000 - £38,000
Overview
We are seeking a proactive, ambitious and commercially driven Business Development Executive – Science Apprenticeships to help grow employer engagement and new business across the science and technical sectors.
This role is focused on identifying new employer opportunities, generating leads, developing relationships and converting prospects into new science apprenticeship partnerships.
We are particularly interested in candidates with either a science sales background or experience selling apprenticeships/training, ideally with exposure to science, laboratory, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare, diagnostics, environmental or technical organisations.
The successful candidate will be confident communicating with businesses, comfortable with outbound sales activity and motivated by achieving targets. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to build a career in business development within the rapidly growing science apprenticeship market.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Generation & New Business
* Research and identify prospective employers across science and technical sectors.
* Build targeted prospect lists across pharmaceutical, biotechnology, laboratory, healthcare, diagnostics, environmental and research organisations.
* Generate new business through outbound calls, email, LinkedIn, networking, referrals and industry events.
* Proactively introduce science apprenticeships and their benefits to prospective employers.
* Qualify leads, identify workforce and skills requirements, and arrange relevant meetings.
* Maintain consistent follow-up activity and develop a strong employer pipeline.
* Achieve agreed KPIs for calls, meetings, qualified opportunities, employer sign-ups and apprenticeship starts.
Employer Engagement
* Build strong professional relationships with science-sector employers and key decision-makers.
* Engage with HR, L&D, recruitment, laboratory, technical and operational stakeholders.
* Understand employer recruitment and skills challenges and identify suitable apprenticeship opportunities.
* Promote relevant science apprenticeship programmes and provide initial guidance on funding routes.
* Identify levy transfer opportunities and refer complex funding queries appropriately.
* Attend relevant science-sector networking, employer forums and industry events.
Science Sector Development
* Develop strong knowledge of science employers, apprenticeship standards and career pathways.
* Understand workforce and skills challenges across pharmaceutical, biotechnology, laboratory, diagnostics and wider science sectors.
* Keep up to date with developments across relevant science and technical industries.
* Use sector knowledge to make credible, targeted approaches to prospective employers.
* Build and maintain a professional network of science-sector contacts.
CRM & Sales Administration
* Maintain accurate CRM records of prospecting, employer engagement, opportunities and next steps.
* Manage follow-ups effectively and ensure opportunities progress promptly.
* Provide regular pipeline updates and ensure accurate information before employer onboarding.
* Work closely with Business Development, delivery, compliance and learner engagement teams.
Team Collaboration
* Work closely with the Business Development Manager to achieve individual and team targets.
* Support wider business development campaigns and sector-specific initiatives.
* Share market intelligence, employer feedback and new opportunities with colleagues.
* Participate in pipeline reviews, sales meetings, performance discussions and professional development.
Skills & Experience
Essential
* Experience in business development, B2B sales, technical sales, recruitment, training or employer engagement. Comfortable with outbound calling, proactive sales and target-driven activity.
* Science sales experience or experience selling apprenticeships/training to science-based organisations.
* Strong interest in science, laboratory and technical sectors.
* Commercially minded and confident using CRM systems, Microsoft Office and digital sales tools.
