An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and technically skilled Business Rates Team Leader to lead the delivery of a busy and high-performing Non-Domestic Rates (NNDR) service.
This role is responsible for the operational management of the Business Rates function, ensuring the accurate administration, billing, collection, and recovery of Business Rates income. You will lead and support a team of officers, providing technical expertise, driving service performance, and ensuring compliance with current legislation and best practice.
This position would suit an experienced Business Rates professional looking to take the next step in their career or an established Team Leader seeking a new challenge.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage the day-to-day operation of the Business Rates service, ensuring the effective administration of all NNDR functions.
* Lead, motivate, and develop a team of Business Rates Officers.
* Oversee the billing, collection, and recovery of Business Rates, ensuring all recovery processes are progressed effectively and in accordance with legislation.
* Manage liability decisions, reliefs, exemptions, and occupier changes.
* Provide specialist technical advice on Business Rates legislation, case law, and statutory guidance.
* Process and manage Valuation Office Agency (VOA) amendments, including the receipt and implementation of eBARS notifications and rating list alterations.
* Manage valuation and liability issues, liaising with the VOA, ratepayers, and professional agents where necessary.
* Oversee and provide guidance on insolvency matters, including liquidations, administrations, bankruptcies, and company dissolutions.
* Represent the organisation at court proceedings, tribunals, and hearings where required.

To be successful in this role, you will have:
Essential Requirements
* Significant experience working within a Business Rates (NNDR) environment.
* Strong knowledge of Non-Domestic Rating legislation, regulations, and relevant case law.
* Experience of Business Rates billing, collection, and recovery processes.
* Experience dealing with Business Rates liability and valuation matters.
* Practical experience of processing VOA alterations and eBARS notifications.
* Knowledge of annual NNDR processes, schedules, and statutory returns.
* Experience managing insolvency, liquidation, and administration cases.
* Proven ability to lead and develop a team while maintaining high standards of service delivery.
Desirable Requirements
* IRRV qualification or an equivalent professional qualification.
* Experience using NEC Revenues or similar revenues management systems.
* Knowledge of wider Revenues services and their interaction with Business Rates Only candidates based in UK and eligible to work in UK are allowed
