Business Support Consultant (Colleague Enablement)

Job Description - Business Support Consultant (Colleague Enablement)

Description

Do you enjoy bringing people together to deliver meaningful colleague activity that makes a real difference? We’re looking for someone who brings energy, sound judgement and a genuine passion for colleague experience, and who is comfortable balancing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

This role sits in Business Services, bringing teams together to deliver critical support across the Retail and Customer Operations functions. In Colleague Enablement, we work closely with senior leaders and partners across the business to help shape and coordinate people priorities, ensuring activity is joined up and clearly understood across both local and central initiatives.

As a Business Support Consultant, you will help drive colleague enablement activity across Retail and Customer Operations, supporting priorities such as Inclusion and Diversity, Reward and Recognition, Culture, Talent and Colleague Listening. It is a role with real reach and visibility, helping to shape activity that has impact across the colleague agenda and supports great customer outcomes. This is also a strong opportunity to broaden your experience across colleague enablement and build exposure to senior stakeholder engagement in a varied, high-profile role.

Your success isn’t based on how long you spend at your desk. You’ll have contracted hours, but we’re always happy to support flexible working wherever we can and always strive to find a way that works for everyone.

We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best.

The working hours (per week) for this role can be between 28 and 35 hours.

This is a 12-month secondment opportunity.

At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

For this job you'll be located at our nearest regional office or hub. There will be a need to regularly connect with colleagues for collaboration and in some locations, you’ll be expected to spend at least two days a week, or if part time, you'll spend 40% of your working time, in the office. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works.

Nationwide is committed to the redeployment of our employees impacted by change, as such applications for redeployment candidates will be prioritised in this recruitment process.

If you’re a colleague on long-term absence (for example, on parental leave) or a temporary worker, please use your personal email address to submit an application.

Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing

You will coordinate and deliver colleague enablement activity across a broad agenda, owning delivery and ensuring priorities are well planned, aligned and on track. This will include understanding requirements, identifying dependencies, supporting engagement activity and bringing people together to move delivery forward.

You will use sound judgement, problem-solving and analytical skills to work through ambiguity, navigate a complex and highly regulated environment, and balance colleague, customer and business outcomes. You will use insight to identify themes, support decision-making and improve how activity is delivered.

You will work closely with senior leaders and stakeholders across the business, communicating with clarity, confidence and credibility. You will produce high-quality updates, briefings, presentations and recommendations, helping to build alignment and maintain momentum across key priorities.

About you

You will have:

  • Relevant experience in supporting colleague or people-focused activity in a fast-paced, complex environment
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly and confidently with a range of stakeholders, including senior leaders, through verbal updates, presentations, written briefings and visually engaging materials
  • Demonstrable experience of planning and coordinating multiple pieces of activity at the same time, including scoping work, identifying dependencies, managing timelines and helping to prioritise competing demands
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with curiosity, sound judgement and the confidence to work through ambiguity, resolve issues and adapt as priorities evolve
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret information and use insight to improve delivery, drive efficiencies and support decision-making
  • A collaborative team player who builds positive working relationships across teams and stakeholder groups, while also being comfortable working independently and taking ownership for delivery
  • Confident using Microsoft tools to support delivery, including creating professional PowerPoint decks, managing trackers and analysis in Excel, drafting communications in Word and coordinating activity through Outlook and Teams

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

  • Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers’ shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind
  • Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think – we’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand
  • Push for better - We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development
  • Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes

You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
