Job Description - Buyer

Position Overview & Duties:

REED Procurement have partnered with a Global Manufacturing business based near Mountain Ash who are looking for a Buyer to join their procurement team on a permanent basis. The role will oversee and develop a portfolio of suppliers providing essential goods and services for their site operations.

Key Duties:

  • Maintain relationships with assigned suppliers by selecting vendors and negotiating prices for required materials and services, ensuring procurement aligns with agreed programs in the most cost-effective, timely, and efficient manner.
  • Analyze, negotiate, and report on supplier price changes.
  • Conduct regular commodity surveys to compare prices; assess market trends to develop new services and create cost savings.
  • Identify and select new and alternative sources of supply, collaborating with technical staff to choose new and alternative materials and services that offer technical or commercial advantages.
  • Ensure all purchasing requisitions and programs are accurate and reflect current supplier lead times, keeping management and user departments informed of any changes that may impact work programs.
  • Identify potential issues and recommend changes.
  • Minimize the company's exposure to minimum order quantities (MOQs) and price increases, obtaining the necessary authority levels.
  • Proactively liaise with other departments to forecast, plan, and meet supply demands to the required quality.
  • Ensure compliance with company codes of conduct and health and safety regulations.
  • Perform administrative tasks and reporting as required.
  • Negotiate, optimize, and manage payment terms.
  • Be aware of international trading issues, imports, and legal considerations.
  • Identify and drive continuous improvements within areas of control.
  • Control and minimize excess costs and stock.

Qualifications, Skills & Attributes:

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Over 3 years of experience in Purchasing within a manufacturing or similar environment.
  • Strategic thinking with an innovative approach to problem-solving.
  • Excellent negotiation skills with a proven track record of cost reduction using appropriate strategic purchasing tools.
  • Familiarity with ERP, MRP, and Purchasing systems.
  • Strong Supplier Relationship Management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines.
