Cable Jointer

Due to continued success in securing new contracts and growth, OCU has exciting opportunities for experienced Cable Jointer to join our delivery team across Yorkshire.

As a Cable Jointer, you will be responsible for installing, connecting, maintaining, and repairing underground cables. Working with high and low voltage systems, the role involves precise work to ensure reliable and safe electrical connections on the power distribution network.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess and prepare the worksite, including digging trenches or preparing cable trays.
• Cut, strip, and prepare cables for jointing or termination.
• Lay underground power cables according to specifications.
• Ensure correct alignment, phasing, and identification of cables

• Make joints and terminations on low voltage (LV), high voltage (HV), and, where qualified, extra high voltage (EHV) cables.
• Use heat-shrink, cold-shrink, resin, or mechanical jointing methods as appropriate.
• Install joints in various cable types such as XLPE, PILC, or armoured cables.

• Troubleshoot mechanical problems and system failures using diagnostic tools, equipment manuals, and technical documentation to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.

• Analyse equipment performance data, conduct performance tests, and interpret findings to diagnose complex mechanical issues and optimise equipment performance.

Skills & Experience Required:

• Valid NPG operational authorisations (Desirable)
• Authorised to joint at LV and/or 11kV
• NRSWA accreditation (desirable)
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to manage workload, meet deadlines, and maintain high attention to detail
