Job Title: Capital Accounting Team Manager (Permanent)

Location: Glasgow

Work Type: Hybrid (3 days onsite, 2 days remote)

Role Purpose:

The Finance Service Delivery Team Manager will lead a team accountable for a key finance process-Project to Retire (P2R)-which includes project and asset management, ensuring robust delivery of the capitalisation and projects process. This role combines strategic oversight, operational delivery, and people leadership. The position involves working closely with Financial Control, PMO, Project Management, and Capital Portfolio Business Partnering teams to support the management of over £1 billion in annual capital expenditure. The successful candidate will be instrumental in driving performance, enhancing service delivery, and fostering continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

Project to Retire (P2R) Service Delivery:

  • Ensure effective capitalisation of projects and assets within AICC and Fixed Asset register.
  • Manage capital asset maintenance requests and subledger month-end close.
  • Review and sign off monthly subledger balance sheet; highlight risks and opportunities.
  • Present service delivery updates to senior stakeholders.
  • Monitor business scorecard metrics to ensure performance and service quality.
  • Support audit processes and deliver timely responses to internal/external requests.
  • Drive team development initiatives aligned with leadership direction.

Leadership and Management:

  • Lead a Capital Accounting team of 9 FTEs, focusing on key deliverables and team effectiveness.
  • Provide coaching, career development, and foster a high-performing, engaged team culture.
  • Actively participate in Finance Service Delivery and Senior Leadership teams.
  • Oversee daily operations, team workload, and resource allocation.
  • Track team performance metrics and initiate continuous improvement.
  • Work collaboratively with internal partners to implement best practices and optimise processes.
  • Ensure services align with business needs, policies, and legal requirements.
  • Maintain strong stakeholder relationships across Business Services and senior leadership.
  • Ensure safety, wellbeing, and compliance across the team.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Qualified or part-qualified accountant with experience in capital-intensive environments and long-term capital projects.
  • Demonstrated experience managing, mentoring, and developing teams.
  • Proven ability to implement impactful process improvements.
  • Adaptable, reflective leader with strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Skilled communicator with strong stakeholder engagement and influencing abilities.
  • Comfortable working under pressure, with changing priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Able to present complex data in a clear and impactful manner to support decision-making
  • Quick to adapt to new systems and technology.
